Sleeping tablet to fly long haul?

Hi there. Looking for opinions and experiences around taking a sleeping tablet to fly long haul over night . Don’t normally take a sleeping tablet, wondering whether it might be an idea, possibly herbal ? Do you take one ? Will I be groggy the next day? Thanks

I tried the herbal ones last time I flew - didn’t sleep a wink! 🤦‍♀️😂

Promethazine. It's a drowsy antihistamine, usually sold as a travel sickness tablet. Available over the counter.

Very effective for me, lasts quite a long time, and yes a bit groggy until it wears off, but I definitely sleep and as long as the flight is over 8 hours I find it fine. I usually take one about 30 mins before boarding so I'll be asleep early on in the flight, and just not worry about the meal service - but tell the flight attendants first so they don't come by and wake you.

Oh no ! Thanks for sharing - maybe not herbal then

Be careful. As ex crew, we once nearly had someone offloaded because they were stuck in the loo and seemingly very drunk. Turned out they’d had a sleeping tablet! We’d never have got them off in an emergency.

Oh gosh , that sounds scary - thanks for the warning

Ambien - it’ll knock you out in about 30 mins, but you may have a metallic taste in your mouth for a few hours when you wake up. You’re not so out of it that you can’t be woken up, however.

It may be more commonly known where you are as Zopiclone. I got it off my private GP here absolutely no problem - just said I was doing a long haul flight and needed to be refreshed

You really wouldn’t have got them off? Aren’t crew trained for all sorts of unpredictable situations?
