Talk to me about robot vacuums

I don’t want to spend a fortune but I do want one to clean my amtico floors downstairs.

Any recommendations that won’t break the bank balance.

Do I really need the mop version? It’s the dust that is driving me mad as we are in a new build and the development is still ongoing and creating lots of dust.

Are they ok for LVT? Not had amtico before.

Will the dog need therapy? He hates the current Henry Hoover?

Will it get stuck under my furniture?

Will it save me sweeping the floors everyday or is it going to be an expensive mistake? I had a cable free vacuum a few years ago which cost about £400 and it was shit at doing its job and ended up in the skip having kept my faithful Henry.

I must admit I am not sure I can be bothered to check out the mop function as I have a spray mop and you need to scrub these floors and it’s the vacuuming I hate. But I am a fan so far even though it’s only been a couple of days. Even DH keeps saying shall we set of Harry again 😁. The only downside is that he is now looking at robot lawnmowers and they are bloody expensive 🙈

We bought Beko model after watching a review of various robovacs on TV. I absolutely love it, keeps the floors at an acceptable level. It has a mop function but we’ve never used it.

We got a very expensive robot lawnmower after getting a robot vacuum. It was worth every penny.

Does anyone have one with multiple dogs? I fancy getting one but don’t know if it would choke on the dog hair 🤦‍♀️

Get one that self empties into a docking station - you have to change the bag in the docking station every couple of months but it's absolutely worth it not to have to empty the vacuum manually each time.

Is the robot vacuum the only household appliance that gets named or is referred to as he or she? I notice most of them are designated as male!

Well we haven’t got the robot lawnmower yet but DH has already named ‘him’. I guess it’s because they seem to have a mind of their own 😆

See my username 🙀

I absolutely love mine
Vacuum properly once a week and then run my eufy everyday.
It picks up a full load of cat hair, dust etc every run and personally I feel my house is so much cleaner and dust free.

Every time there's a robovac thread someone posts that it chews stuff up but it's pretty simple to just not leave clutter about -I mean come on!

I run after dinner and it's just so nice to have a spotlessly clean house every day.
I would replace in a heartbeat!

Welikebeingcosy · 20/07/2025 13:59

I got a £200 eufy and I have to stop what I'm doing every twenty mins, take out the roller and cut the hairs out of the roller, as it gets jammed. İt also doesn't get the corners, or stairs, so I use a hand held hoover for those İt doesn't beat a Henry in terms of auction and speed but it does save the job.

Then somehow the roller has broken, maybe from me having to remove it so often, and I need to get sorted about a replacement but haven't got around to it, so I bought a cheap hoover for now.

When I use the eufy though I literally have to pick up every single thing off the floor and hang wires up, or it just gets jammed. İt also needs a lot of reprogramming as seems to forget the floor plans if I change floors of the house with it. Sometimes it needs reminding of what it's doing also. I find if you're not very specific with it, like draw a square for it to vacuum within, it will miss out whole chunks of floor.

Anyway, I do love mine, just needs a lot of attention and now I'm waiting on finding the time to get spare parts.

Do you have a recommendation, @pastabest?

https://amzn.eu/d/gMaDuTi I've got this Eufy one but it's a few years old now and doesn't appear to be available any more. I'm sure there will be an equivalent newer one.

The tapo one I linked upthread has a self emptying docking station and I can highly recommend.
