30 years ago I spent hours perusing prams( and loving every minute)
I have CP and a few friends and even 2 of my sons have said I would have a much more enjoyable life if I got one, but I’m going round in circles(!) looking
Does anyone have/ know anyone who has one which
dismantles for travel/ storage.
Decent range/ battery life
i know it’s a very personal decision and everyone’s needs are different but seriously it’s like wishing for the moon on a stick😂
Any replies much appreciated

There are various Facebook groups for mobility scooter users. I bet the members would love to give you far too much advice 😁

A friend who ran a mobility shop, advised us to go for a Pride Go-Go about 6 years ago. Its a boot scooter which splits into 4 parts. It can go for 4 or 5 miles, but you need a bigger battery or a scooter that doesnt break up if you plan to use it for longer journeys. I do have a hoist for it now, as was getting to the point of needing DH with me to use it, and am now more independent with the hoist.

You have a better idea of going to a mobility shop and trying a few out to see what fits your needs best as there is a large variety to choose from and they cater slightly differently dependent on your needs.

Just googled the go-go and it states: Up to 6 miles (12AH), up to 9.75 miles (18AH) (battery sizes)

I’m currently doing the same as you and trying to make a choice. It has helped me to decide what I want from it, and what’s most important for me.

Do you want to be able to fold it up and carry it on a train with you? Or break it down into pieces so it can go in a car boot? Or can it stay in one piece? Do you have weight restrictions? What sort of terrain will you be going on? Cobbled paving and dirt roads? Or nice smooth pavements? Do you need a suspension? Or puncture proof tyres? How long will you be sitting in it? Do you prioritise comfort or practicality? Will you need a wet weather cover to use it? And mph and miles per charge is also something you’d need to consider.

I bought a mobility scooter 7 years ago and absolutely hate it. They’re cumbersome and so bug that they’re difficult to get around in shops and I found it really uncomfortable too. I had a hoist fitted in the back of my car that was supposed to make it easy to put in but it was still difficult.

Last year I bought this folding power chair instead. I wish I’d never bought the scooter, it’s so comfortable, turns on a sixpence and is really easy to use. I’ve still got a hoist in my car because I can’t lift it, but DH can. The staff at CareCo are brilliant too,

I would also suggest looking at power chairs. More places allow you to use them - trains, theatres etc. Mobility Plus have a good range at decent prices. I bought one that is good on rough terrain and breaks down into two pieces to lift/fit in my car. I bought through eBay and it was delivered the next day.

A relative of mine has one of these. It's fastened to the front of her existing wheelchair. I'm not sure of the specs but she really likes it and it's very compact.

That looks great, my mum hates having to be pushed. I’ll show her this. Thanks for sharing.

I have a travelscoot and I absolutely love it. It was actually recommended by someone on Mumsnet! It’s small enough to ride around in shops, in the theatre, I’ve taken it on lots of trains, and it folds up relatively easily to go in the boot of the car. It turns on a pin. Range is about 15 miles. The big drawback is cost - over £2k new. https://mytravelscoot.co.uk

MY TRAVEL SCOOT

The TravelScoot™ is with 35 pounds by far the world’s lightest and most compact electric mobility scooter. It’s the ideal scooter for everyone who’s feet are not playing along but who are otherwise still in a fairly good shape.
