Lying here, unable to sleep and brain going a million miles an hour!

My lovely 3 year old DS2 has cerebral palsy and is having Neurosurgery tomorrow in the hopes of removing the spasticity in his lower limbs so he can come down from his tiptoes when walking and be able to stand unaided.

The hospital in 2.5 hours from home and it's a 3 week stay, DD and DS1 are at home with my mum. We've never been away from them before, bar when DS2 was born and in NICU for 12 days and the odd night away which I could count on one hand. DH is with us until Tuesday evening and then I'll be on my own until the weekend after next as he's self employed as well as the other two needing one of us home.

None of my children have ever had surgery before, let alone one so complex!

positive thoughts coming your way (my dh had brain surgery, so i know a little bit about the worries).

Polkadottablecloth · 14/07/2025 02:32

@Coffeeandcrocs My son had SDR 13 years ago and I well remember the night before. Good luck - I found it helpful to think of the surgery as just the first step as the rehab is so long and important, that helped take the pressure off the operation itself.
I will be thinking of you, surgery a long way from home is hard on everyone. X

Notmyrealname22 · 14/07/2025 04:35

Sending strength, good wishes and hugs. Any surgery is scary, especially neurosurgery. I am sending all the positive vibes for your DS to have a fantastic outcome from the surgery. Well done on getting him the medical care he needs.

Dustyblue · 14/07/2025 04:57

Oh Mama, my heart goes out to you and your boy! The stress is frightful.

My DS9 has different issues, but I still I freaked the 1st time he went under GA aged 4 and that was only for 1.5 hours for a lesser problem. I'm shaking for you!

So glad to hear you trust your medical team. You will get through this & so will your son.

Love & hand-hold from Australia XXX

LateMumma · 14/07/2025 05:05

Sending you love today. I’ll be holding you all in my thoughts

ayvasili · 14/07/2025 05:12

Sending love and a hand hold today, to you and your lovely little one. Prayers that the surgery will have a good outcome, and your son will have a speedy recovery. It is so scary seeing your child in a hospital gown, and the feeling doesn't change whether they are 5 months old (D's first admission) or 18 years old so I completely understand where you are coming from. I'm sending angels to watch over you and your boy.

Coffeeandcrocs · 14/07/2025 11:23

Morning all, I didnt sleep much last night unsurprisingly!

DS was first on the list and is in theatre now after what can only be described as a shambolic start -we will be putting in a PALS complaint once this is all over. Operation will last between 4.5-6 hours and then in hospital until friday afternoon followed by 2 weeks of outpatient rehab, 4 hours a day.

I realise you’re probably far too busy with your son to post on here, but just to say I’ve been thinking of you and your DS today.
