What's good to buy as a present? Im totally non religious so im not sure of what people normally buy. Baby is 6 months. Mum is fairly close friend of mine. Budget probably 30, rather spend 20. Thank you

I bought the complete set of Beatrix Potter books . The parents loved them

Where I live it is traditional to give silver. You can get lovely money boxes.

A classic Winnie the Pooh collection

  • Nice Noah's ark puzzle for when older
  • one of those puzzles where the individual pieces spell out the child's name
  • catholic Saint magnets (I've seen them online before)
  • noahs ark book ends
  • rhyming bible (really is brilliant)
  • book of childrens poetry / classic fairytales
  • Nice steiff bear or animal
  • necklace if a girl
  • something related to the child's name
  • a few nice wooden animals (holtztiger, wudimals etc)
  • grimms rainbow

It doesn't have to be religious, can be more keepsake.

I would avoid normal bibles, money boxes, religious statues and any keepsakes with the date on as they will probably get loads already

I’m not religious and there’s only so much silver tatt you need so I’ve always bought nice versions of classic
books such as those mentioned above.

Nice children’s book or a print for the baby’s bedroom.

We got our nephew a silver coin from the royal mint. It was a Gruffalo one, came in a lovely card thing. Think it was about £15 or so

Our family, people just tend to buy nice toys or books. A generation back it would have been christening bracelets and silver photo frames and the like, but we all seem to have moved on from that now.

One generous couple did buy shares for their new niece recently which I thought was an original idea.

A set of books about morals like the 'friendship is forever' series

Books of kindness or books of happiness - if you google them they're lovely and align with religious values but aren't religious
