What’s up with Europeans being against AC ?

i have lived in France for a couple of years and I’ve been to Germany, Belgium, Spain and Portugal. Now in Portugal they like to use AC in public buildings at least but that’s not the case in other EU countries. Specially France.

in France there are no AC in public buildings, public transports and in homes. Even in late model city buses, the drivers just refuse to use them even though the late model buses must have working AC compressors. And I’ve noticed that even in 35 to 40 degrees heat, I notice drivers even in late model cars with their windows down. Even those who drive luxury cars. Range rovers, Mercedes BMW, Audi ECT. Even during heatwaves many drivers in their late model cars drive with their windows down.

and I don’t think it’s only because many people can’t afford AC. It’s just that many people seems to have a weird dislike against the use of AC and would rather be uncomfortable because many Europeans love to play eco warrior.

why are Europeans weird with air conditioning ?

Agree. If you're short of money installing Air Conditioning must be low priority.

Agreed but I already have it installed luckily and electric tarriff is fixed so at least when I’m stuck home cause I have no money to spend on going out I can be comfortable 😜

No hate from me. It's just the idea that NOT having Aircon makes you an eco warrior, but equally being an eco warrior is a luxury belief that most people can't afford. Not having aircon is a eco choice for me but also I'm skint so it works out.
Hopefully as it gets hotter in summer more of us will have solar panels so the increased energy use of AC gets covered by that.

My daughter lived in Madrid for many years, when she would ask Spanish colleagues or friends why no AC they usually would just say its bad for you not needed and very drying for your throat, mind you maybe they were accustomed to it , but in August for us it was like being in hottest oven imaginable.
Then in winter there was no central heating, again freezing, but same answer it’s bad for you not needed etc so agree op I have zero idea why they are against it.

We've just returned from 10 days or so in France including a week in a lovely villa in Provence. It was incredibly hot, hit 40c at one point.
But it was great because the lovely villa had not only a pool but also AC.
It was bliss, especially as we could sleep well at night.
When I was searching for the holiday i noticed many properties listed AC on their info.

Also claiming that you can't get tap water in any restaurant in Europe.

To add to my post about AC, we noticed that as soon as we sat down in a restaurant a waiter would bring a jug of iced water and glasses. Sometimes a jug of ice too.
Something I had not seen before, but they were/are in a 'canicule' event (heat wave.)

It's the law in France that they have to provde free tap water to all customers, most will automatically give you a jug or bottle of tap water.
