Suggest a book for me to read by the pool

I’m taking 4 books on holiday. I have a couple of thrillers and a girly female centred non romance book.

I’m looking for a beach/pool read. Something with a bit of magic or sparkle.
Last year I read Evie Woods The Lost Bookshop and loved it.

I hate autobiographies and real life. I also read one about a man who moves his family to Spain. Something about lemons in the title and it was quite painful to get through.

Can anyone suggest me something light and summery, with perhaps a touch of magic.

Many thanks!

I adore this

I don’t know about magic but the wit does sparkle.

Thank you for the recommendation. It doesn’t look like I can order it in the UK. I don’t have a kindle. I am old skool and still need an actually book lol. I might be able to have it delivered to my condo in the US for a bit later though.

Bella Mackie How to Kill your Family

Taylor Jenkins Reid The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Lessons in Chemistry Bonnie Garmus

all of the above are great holiday reads

There’s a new Jenny Colgan out?

Where are you going? The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell has references to the South of France. Not her best book but still a great easy pool read.
The Invitation by Lucy Foley is based in Rome and then travel down the Riviera by yacht . Not fond of books set in the past but it's interesting enough.
Also really liked the book version of Nine Perfect Strangers ( much better than the drama series) by Liane Moriarty.

Anything by those three are imaginative easy reads.

Just came here to say 'anything by Liane Moriarty'. I've read them all more than once on holiday and she's never let me down.

How to Kill Your Family is a good shout.

Or anything by Jonas Jonasson.

buckleten · 13/07/2025 17:58

That link is to an actual book. I would hate to read it on a kindle.

And it’s a UK seller.

I read the Midnight Bookshop on holiday this year and loved it!

Frankie by Graham Norton
Mayluna by Kelley McNeill
One of the good guys by Araminta Hall
And I'm currently reading The Wedding People by Alison Espach. I'd recommend them all for very different reasons!

Right, trying the link out again!

Thanks all. I’m going through the book descriptions on Amazon one at a time, by book title and author.

@Goingawayistricky I’m off to the Florida Keys, so it’s a very relaxing one.

I absolutely adore reading, so I’m sure I’ll get through all of the recommendations at some point!!

@SoppySalad Oooh how lovely. Bit jealous. I used to live in Florida and desperate to go back and say hello.

Ive just finished Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. It reminds me of Twilight but is about dragons, dragon riders and magic. Would recommend.

The House of Sorrowing Stars by Beth Cartwright and There are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak.
