Dry and itchy face, neck and lips.

Can anyone help I am going out of my mind. It started with a rash on my neck, which I put down to a nickel allergy and so have removed my necklace. My lips were dry and itchy at the same time which I put down to sometimes absent mindedly putting the necklace pendant in my mouth/running it across my lips.

So thought that would be the end of it. But this was a week or so ago and the rash on my neck hasn’t let up, my lips are so dry and painful and my whole face is dry, tight and itchy now. Especially around my eyes.

WTF is going on? I have tried every lip balm and moisturiser going but nothing is helping. I’m using antihistamines which helps the neck itching for a bit but not everything else.

I’m perimenopausal which could account for the dryness but what about everything else.

Can anyone shed any light on what this is and more importantly how I can relieve it?

I’ve just used a moisturiser that is supposedly suitable for very dry and sensitive skin and it just stings.

I would take some piriton and see how You go with that.

And have a tepid shower to wash the cream off

If it is dermatitis you might need a mild steroid/hydrocortisone cream. You could ask a pharmacist as the very mild ones can be bought over the counter.

I’ve just gone through a week solid of this. Everything stung and nothing worked. I’ve had to take antihistamines and let my skin just be dry and horrible and go through the flaking phase.
no heavy creams just a bit of Moo Goo and castor oil.

And tepid showers, very gentle wiping of face with a soft cloth and no make up so I’ve looked shocking for the last week of work

Perimenopausal dermatitis. Fucidin cream.

As pp have suggested, go to the doctor. In the meantime, don't put loads of different creams on and don't fall for marketing. Something that works wonders for one person won't work for another and if your skin is reactive you're going to irritate it.

When your skin is dry your skin barrier doesn't properly function and lets in irritants (e.g. mine is affected by pollen) so you do need a moisturiser - if you have to wait a long time for your doctors appt, go to the pharmacy and ask them about emollients (moisturisers).

Take photos in case you get referred to a dermatologist. The appointment will be a long time away!

Not saying you have eczema, but protecting your skin barrier is always a good idea.

Thanks all for the very helpful advice.

It’s just so strange, I’ve never experienced anything like it before and it’s come on so suddenly.
