Kids party - last minute invite....

DSs party tomorrow and we've had a drop out so he'd like to invite someone else which is fine as the space is paid for.

However how do you word an invite to someone else if they will know they are an after thought or a filler in without it coming across that way.

I personally wouldn’t. It’s really short notice and clearly they weren’t a priority. It can’t come off well.

I wouldn’t, I’d find it too awkward. I had this this year and ended up inviting a younger sibling and they happily took the place.

WhatTheHelll · 12/07/2025 14:36

Just say ‘I know it’s last minute but would X like to come to Ys birthday tomorrow. The cost is covered by us. No worries if you can’t’

Unless it’s a family member/close family friend who’s unlikely to take offence then it really isn’t worth it.

I would have been delighted considering how few parties DD was invited to, provided it was someone who was friendly towards her.

SanFranBear · 12/07/2025 14:41

I'm with @WhatTheHell and think her wording is great.. no harm at all in asking and I wouldn't personally feel like an afterthought - especially if my DC would like to go.

Is their a sibling of a friend already coming who you could invite then its nice rather then awkward
