What is everyone eating in this hot weather?

Please help me with some food ideas for this weather! None of us cope with the heat well so standing in the kitchen cooking when it’s over 30 degrees is not fun. Unfortunately, we are not a family that enjoys salad, my partner and son don’t like pasta and I can’t keep eating bread and cheese for dinner so what is everyone else eating? Would like it to be hot food, but hot food that’s fairly quick to cook! All suggestions welcome!

I've just roasted an emu sized chicken. Served with salad (optional) coleslaw and Jersey royals. Totally yummy and loads of chicken left for lunches tomorrow. Always a winner in my house and not much cooking involved, bungalow it in and walk away. Boil potatoes when needed.

Bung not bungalow (bloody phone)

That mumsnet chicken and big salad will see you through until November.

My husband and son are meat and veg boys. I love salad but just adapt to what they will eat and have it on the side - cherry tom's and cucumber, and they'll both not moan about a ceasar salad on the side, or a wedge of iceburg lettuce with dressing and bacon bits or croutons.

This week:
Chicken fajitas
Pizza
Pork chop and stir fry veg
Steak baguettes
Sea bass, rice and tenderstem broccoli
Quiche, salad
Lasagne and salad
Chicken wings
Burgers and chips

We had falafel wraps tonight, with dips and various raw veg chopped up. Yesterday we had halloumi and watermelon, Greek salad and bread. No garden so no option for a BBQ sadly.

YouknowIknowbest · 13/07/2025 17:59

Oven baked seasoned chicken thighs with sautéed potatoes and roast carrots
Quiche with homemade wedges and sweetcorn
Pan fried seasoned chicken breasts with oven baked baby potatoes
Roasted Pork loin wrapped in bacon with seasoned rice and veg
Whole roasted shredded chicken in wraps and cucumber batons

Baked potato. Can be made ahead of time in microwave.
Then either tuna/ cheese/ beans etc.
Chicken strips (frozen) in airfryer with wraps/ coleslaw.

We're having omelette today. There's just DH and I here so we're tending to eat a hot meal as usual but not until 9ish in the evening.

TheMaskedAvenger · 13/07/2025 18:47

Hot dogs 🌭
Coleslaw
Fries
Coke

Followed by chocolate ice cream

Kids loved it and we're right by the seaside, so kept humming 'under the boardwalk'. Really fit the mood today 😊

thefamous5 · 13/07/2025 18:56

We've just had a bbq with some friends.

Hot dogs, burgers. Pasta salad and plenty of beer

Emmz1510 · 13/07/2025 20:01

Far too many crisps and wine!

mumofsisi · 13/07/2025 20:41

My oven broke, so I'm using the air fryer for everything, so much easier. Also grilled sandwiches and barbecue

NeverDropYourMooncup · 13/07/2025 20:46

Just had lemon chicken thighs, boiled new potatoes, tomatoes, spinach and a dressing made with chicken stock, lemon and feta.

MrsOLG · 13/07/2025 22:01

Not a hot meal, but you can't beat a good old fashioned buffet type thing.

Cubes of cheese, pickled onions, cream crackers, mini sausage rolls, quartered scotch eggs, sausage on sticks, crisps etc etc. Oh the good old days 😋 😀

OldWave · 13/07/2025 22:06

We're pretty much living on hummus right now.

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 13/07/2025 22:06

We’re mostly having a bit of meat cooked on gas bbq, new potatoes or some air fried chips and a handful of mixed leaves.

Omelettes happen often too along with homemade pizza.

worstofbothworlds · 13/07/2025 22:10

We had grilled kebabs (Asda yellow sticker), potato salad and green salad. I went and sat in the garden while the kebabs grilled...

TweedleDumbAndTweedleDeeeeeeeee · 13/07/2025 22:48

Roast chicken, asparagus and a tomato yesterday. Cold chicken, home made chips and a tomato today with lashings of mayonnaise.

We have been grilling in the garden. I only turned on my stove last night for the first time since the heatwave started.
