Does anyone else just have a sweaty child?

Just been along to check in on the kids. Three asleep in pants. Fine. One absolutely soaking. In pants.

her father is like this. He stands outside at any event we go to. Hates being indoors, farmer.

she’s not running a fever, she’s like this even in winter, and our house is cold. It used to worry me as a baby but now it’s just her I think. 🤔

she is the palest of skin. The one who would burn, but just so hot at night. Hair is soaked.

she’s actually the hardest to get an accurate temperature on if they are sick.

Mine was abnormally sweaty until we realised it was the polyester pillows, duvet and quilt cover. Once we changed to feather and down, and 100% cotton bedding it resolved

People have different levels of heat tolerance so someone with poor heat tolerance will start getting the biological processes to cool the body at a lower point than others, and also need to be more careful to avoid overheating. It can also change with things like hormones which is why pregnant women tend to overheat more easily.

I do wonder if it might be linked to the red hair gene, my redheaded children seem to struggle more with heat than DS1 who has brown hair.

All cotton bedding.

yes re red hair. She does not have red hair but her father and uncles do and her complexion is such that she should.

shes just so hot!

its somewhat of a local joke that nobody has ever seen DH in trousers. He’s either shorts, smart shorts or a kilt.

just overheats immediately even in snow.

Mine is a sweater, always has been since a baby. It's been hot today and he's been at a not strenuous outdoor activity and literally dripping sweat by the end

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/07/2025 21:53

Me and DD. Red hair gene as well. It’s shit TBH.

jesihar · 12/07/2025 08:31

Was looking at her hair as she slept and maybe is changing. Auburn hints.

certainly never seen such a pale complexion with her brown hair.

it doesn’t bother her. She’s just wet.

Yes I have a sweater, no red hair though. He was the sweatiest baby and now is the sweatiest pre-teen (bedroom smells lovely as you can imagine).

DamnitCarol · 12/07/2025 08:45

My eldest is sweaty, head mostly. Hair and pillow will be drenched when sleeping, and if he is outside with a baseball cap on in any temperature his hair will be wet when he removes it.

Doesnt bother him in the slightest, I just find it a bit gross!

My daughters share a room. It's the warmest room in the house. The one that takes after the Scottish side of the family is always hot, sleeps in thin pyjamas, has the lightest duvet available all year round. The other one has a 13.5 tog duvet all year round, sleeps in a hoodie, flannel pyjamas and bed socks. When they swim in the sea the Scottish one glows red when she comes out and loves it, the other one goes blue and takes forever to warm up when she comes out. As a small child she would start shivering in the swimming pool. The difference is incredible.

I assume they’re without covers? What do they need pants for?

cheesycheesy · 12/07/2025 22:05

Both my boys are super sweaty. So am I. I go outside in this heat for a few mins and my hair is wet. My dh isn’t so bad

HairOfFineStraw · 13/07/2025 01:53

This was my kid and unfortunately my bed. We had to change everything. He's 4 and always sweaty sleeping, like his dad. Both also have a disgusting habit of sleeping under their pillows. 🤢

This is a very good question. I have no idea. My friend and I has this discussion which then moved to the mum chat. We seemed to be fifty fifty on pants and no pants. Down to upbringing was only answer we could come up with.

I always wore pants, so kids do. She never did. Hers don’t.

My little guy is a sweaty fella! His hair will be soaking, and he’ll be sticky or slick all over. He’s been the same, since small.
