Advice for going to gig in Hyde Park in very hot weather please!

We have tickets for Stevie Wonder tomorrow, lucky us. But the weather is daunting me somewhat.

The tickets say doors open at 2pm, but I don't know when the concert will actually start, and how is the standing room allocated? Is it first come first served or are there organised areas? Would it be madness to get there at 2pm or madness to NOT get there at 2pm?

Advice from anyone who has been to a similar gig in Hyde Park, or from anyone who has already seen Stevie on this tour much appreciated, thank you.

If you have tickets for general standing room that will be first come first served basis so it will depend how close to the stage you want to be as to what is the best time to get there.

I would definitely wear a hat, sunglasses and put on loads of suncream and take some with you as well. Maybe a light long-sleeved top as well to cover up if you start to burn? What will you do about food? Also keep well hydrated.

I'm sure at some concerts when it's been really hot they've sprayed the crowds with water to keep them cool! Hope they do this for you tomorrow.

Have a great time!

Take a spray bottle of water and mist yourself at regular intervals. Really helps.

You can’t take liquids in. Take empty bottles to fill up at the free taps.

Stevie will be the headliner so won’t be on til late, I’d aim to get there for 7pm to avoid the heat if you’re not worried about seeing the other artists, or being near the front.

Radiatorvalves · 11/07/2025 18:27

The taps work well. The food however…. Don’t bother. The queues were awful. Enjoy!

ChocHotolate · 11/07/2025 18:28

It is essentially a field with the stage & VIP area at the front and food and merchandise stalls around the edges. Lots of people rush to the front but also lots just sit closer to the back and enjoy the atmosphere, drinks and people watch. Big screens mean you can see well from almost everywhere
There is practically no shade, be prepared

We went a couple of years ago to see P!nk in the heat. As everyone said, hat, sunscreen, something light with sleeves. The only issue we had was the very long queues for the water taps, so my tip from that is try and take in the largest bottle (s) you are allowed and don’t wait until you are thirsty to fill them up.

adviceatthislatestage · 11/07/2025 19:12

I’m going to see Stevie Wonder tomorrow too. Am taking a hat, factor 50 sun cream, a fan and 500ml bottle of water. They have water stations to refill bottles everywhere.

Food stalls- not the worst food, but yes expect queues and silly prices.

DS and I are keen to see one of the supports - Thee Sacred Souls, so getting there earlier

My DSD and DSGD were at the Cardiff show a couple of nights ago and said Stevie was great. Read some glowing reviews ; so we should all have a good time tomorrow

We are booked for ELO on Sunday but as they were forced to cancel their show last night it's possible they won't perform, we're then not sure whether it's worth all the travel and effort in the heat to just see the support bands. We'd get a partial refund at best looking at the T&Cs though.

edited to be kinder.

namechangedtemporarily123 · 12/07/2025 15:46

ELO is cancelled. The supporting acts are not that strong, especially in this heat (wish I’d booked Stevie Wonder) waiting to hear re what the refund policy is. He must be gutted (as am I)

EssentialDecluttering · 12/07/2025 17:52

Yes, seen it on the app, glad they cancelled the whole thing, I didn't want to travel just to see the other bands in this heat TBH, although I'm sure they'd be good. Refund details all on the BST app.

It was a brilliant concert but the weather was blisteringly hot .
We managed to get shade outside the Peroni bar and just stayed put untill SW was about to come on .
The loos were very clean the food was ok but Im not paying £7.60 for a bloomin ice cream ( I thought it was a typo )
The water queue was long at times but moved quickly .
The crowd was very chilled .

At a festival yesterday they changed the no taking in water to that you could take unopened bottles in as it was so hot. They also handed out water and suncream to people that didn't have it on the way in.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/07/2025 14:26

It was brilliant, wasn't it @Finallyhappyat60 ? Outstanding, I got overwhelmed and overjoyed all at the same time! I found the heat tolerable and we actually stayed in the same spot from 4pm to the very end and watched 2 great support acts. Feet are aching today.

Poor DS had to leave early at 9.30pm to get to something else he was going to, so he missed the best half hour of the show.

But - what an absolute blast!
