Hi,

So i have worked for a worldwide well known American company for 11 years since a fairly young age net worth is about 60 billion (has decreased in the past few years from 68 billion poor them) , last year there was a redundancy scare which prompted me to smarten the old cv and utilise LinkedIn etc, I was soon told that my role was safe but the whole thing still gave me the willies.

I have had the odd interview here and there mainly for interview experience as this is the only company I have worked for really ( aside from my apprenticeship and the odd bar job in my younger days) anyway to my point, I have been offered a new job with a cyber security company doing something similar to what I do now but completely different industry, its a pay increase (not massive but still more money) home working with expensed paid travel for the odd day at hq in London etc, similar other benefits/annual leave etc.

Any who I am well liked at work ( i think) by managers and colleagues alike , I do 2 days in the office and commute is 15 miles each way , with the rest at home, so perfectly manageable, I have no complaints really, although I have seen a decline in the company over the past few years with the culture, cost freezes ETC, i do feel there is a slight chance of redundancy's in the future however I do feel there will be a lot who will openly volunteer. I don't feel Sunday scaries or anything like that and like my title says 'happy enough' if maybe a bit bored

I have researched this company on glass door etc and the employer reviews are really good think 4.5 and not many cons mentioned.

I am very much a if it aint broke dont fix it kinda gal

Should I stay put?

The in office point would swing it for me - if the new one is home only and you like being in the office, stay put.

Stay with what you know - if you’re happy, you’re happy.

the stress of changing jobs isn’t worth it.

I think once you start interviewing for somewhere else you’re already one foot out of the door.

Reasons to go:

  • after being there for several years, they are under paying you. You say it’s not much more but you’re starting at the bottom of the scale at the new place as opposed to demonstrating your skills and expertise for years with your current place.
  • you’ve seen a decline in the company culture vs a job with 4.5 stats on glassdoor
  • they’ve had a recent redundancy round and you’re not confident there won’t be another round. If there is a redundancy round, you feel a lot of people will volunteer to go.
Reasons to stay:
  • it’s familiar and if you’re let go, you’d get a redundancy payment

Sometimes it's better the devil you know than the devil you don't... it sounds like it comes down to if the increase is enough and if the WFH is attractive to you

Can you negotiate more of a pay rise in the potential new job to make the change more worthwhile?
