Confidence to wear summer clothes

I’ve recently lost 4 stone and after years of dressing in baggy and shapeless summer clothes I can finally wear something nicer.

I've bought a few nice tops and dresses but am struggling to build the confidence to wear them! I frustrate myself! I think at the crux I just don’t see myself as a person who wears strappy dresses or leggings and t shirts.

Please give me a talking to! I’m going on holiday in a few weeks and need to get a grip!

Start slowly and wear them around the house. Hoping that you don’t live alone and so your family will give you nice compliments and this will give you the confidence you need. Plus, in reality, who cares what you wear?. No one is really looking once you’re out in the wild lol. Well done on your weight loss 👍🏻

I agree with wearing them around the house. It may also be easier when you're on holiday because you're somewhere different where no one knows you, and everyone will probably be dressed like this.
Also be assured that you'll look so much better than you did in those baggy rectangles!

Definitely start around the house. This weekend is going to be very hot so ideal. Wear something light and floaty.

Do little forays, a coffee in the garden or walk the dog around the block. I bet you look lovely 🙂

Maybe you're not a strappy dress person?
Or leggings?

I've always been on the thinner side but I hate strappy dresses on me and leggings feel like they are constantly riding up my arse. I like loose rugby type shorts with tshirts or atm I love coord sets, either short or long.

I like dresses but shirt or button through type not strappy. Maybe tshirt type too

I feel too trussed up in a strappy dress.

My DS has just lost a good bit of weight too and she is finding that she isn't liking the clothes that she had imagined she would.

Congratulations on the weight loss and I hope you find some outfits that feel "you" soon

I understand OP. Many years ago I lost a lot of weight. Although I was delighted what followed was a kind of style identity crisis. I didn't know what my preferences were as I always wore what covered up my worst parts without thought of style. I didn't know if I liked colours or patterns or particular cuts. I had spent years wishing I could go shopping for that size but when I had the chance it was really difficult and overwhelming.

I agree with PP, start at home or at the corner shop. It takes time. Congratulations on your wonderful achievement!

Remember that no one else gives a fig what others are wearing! Thats what helped me.
I struggled to wear anything except jeans and t shirts for almost 20 years. I convinced myself that if I wore a dress or leggings and a long top people would think I looked ridiculous and would laugh at me.
Which of course is nonsense.
I started wearing a few different options to test the idea that it would be ok.
It was fine....... obviously! And now I wear prettier stuff all the time and almost never wear jeans at all, even in winter. The bonus is my new clothing choices also happen to be a lot more comfortable to wear!
Give it a try xxx
