How do I talk teenage DS into practicing for a test?

DS (15, ASD, dyscalculia and dyspraxia) has just done some work experience in an area he has wanted to work in forever. It's his special interest. They have come back with a good report and asked if he is interested in applying for an apprenticeship. He of course, was delighted. Now they've sent him details saying he will have to complete an aptitude test.

I managed to get him to do a practice one online, but he failed miserably. He hates using a computer, so that doesn't help. I've made him some worksheets with questions in a similar style, but he will not sit and look at them with me or by himself. He won't do any practice and has reverted back to "its new, won't do it" panic. Usually if he doesn't know he can do an exercise, he won't do it rather than get it wrong.

I've tried talking to him, clearly he doesn't want to listen to mummy. Said he'll make his own job, maybe playing Minecraft 🤨 Doesn't help that the summer holidays have just started so he doesn't see why he should do school work (not that he does any out of school during term time....)

Any suggestions on how to get through to him that he needs to practice?

(Screen bans won't work, he'd rather not have screens than do extra maths)

Well, has he the ability to pass these tests or not, you must have some idea? If it's going to be beyond him I wouldn't personally flog a dead horse

Almost all of the jobs I have applied for recently have asked on the application form if there are any adjustments that need to be made for me to attend the interview/do the job

Is it worth exploring whether that is a possibility? They obviously are keen to have him apply having got to know him a bit during work experience and if there is a way of doing this assessment that suits him better I think it would be a shame not to explore that

@tripleginandtonic so at 15/16 I should write off the chance of him ever having a job?

At school, he has (well, is supposed to have) support. If he gets the apprenticeship, he would have support at college. But as far as I can see, there's no allowances on the aptitude test. Probably he wouldn't pass if he has to do it without support. He might do acceptably if he has someone to explain the example questions, tell him to get back to it when he stares into space etc.

The company has his latest school report (including the addendum about his SEN).

The aptitude test is an online test that they have to order for him.

That's obviously not what I'm saying. But you must know how far away he is from being able to pass it?

No, I've no idea how it is marked, nor what is considered as a pass.
