To tell you all about my new job!

I don't really have anyone to share this with in real life

But basically I've worked minimum wage retail or cleaning jobs. Managed to work my way up into supervisor or duty manager positions (even management positions were still paid hourly so I was over worked constantly)

But I have been offered basically my dream job, its even salaried too!

I'm so excited to get started, I can't believe it
I've come from a family on benefits and while there is nothing wrong with that, I always wanted a career for myself and to show my kids that you need to work.

I'm so unbelievably proud of myself I could cry!
And its not in retail so I have a huge change ahead of me but I cannot wait! 🥳😁

Well done, OP! 🥳🎉 I know how limiting it is working in retail as that's what I've done most of my life. Well done on breaking the chains! 😁💐

Thank you 🥺
I don't actually mind retail, as long as I have nice customers 😂
But the managers where I recently worked were horrible, talk down to staff and just belittle you constantly
And it was made clear that I wouldn't be able to progress as they didn't like me.
Managed 6 months of that job, crying before my shift, panic attacks, shaking before realising I couldn't take anymore

School holidays here, so I have a week with my children before I start my new job, I couldn't be happier or more excited for me

Congratulations!!!!!! Can I ask how this new opportunity came about? After years in the same situation I just haven't got the courage to put myself out there, even though I know I would be more than capable of more. But I think that is what minimum wage work does, it demoralises you to the point you feel you can't do better. So just know, this Internet stranger is so proud of you for breaking free and moving up.

I totally get where you're coming from, where your face has to "fit". I worked at Boots once as a customer assistant and the whole place was just a toxic mess! The beauty counter girls were very bitchy and would look you up and down, it was like being back at school! Upper management wanted the impossible, putting increasing pressure on you to up your sales. I would often be in tears. I lasted 3 months as I couldn't take the atmosphere any longer. As you say, nice customers are lovely but can be few and far between. What sort of field are you now going in to?

Congratulations!!!!!!
Hope it’s best thing ever. Something you enjoy, with time for family.
Retail can be so hard on family time.

lovemycbf · 09/07/2025 12:46

oh well done OP
that’s a great achievement and you should be proud of yourself and showing your children hard work pays off 👏🥳

This made me cry 🥺
Thank you so much for your words

I actually got an email from a recruiter about the vacancy, I replied to it instantly (was in the work toilets having a panic attack)

And just thought I would go for it with everything I had, I'm quite good in interviews (just before hand I get so nervous)

If I can do it, you absolutely can too! X

I appreciate the kind words, I don't have any people in real life that would celebrate with me.
I definitely want my children to do and be better, I started having kids too young and its been a very hard, financially breaking year on year.

I just can't believe I have a salaried position!

Hours are on the long side but I finally have set shifts! Which gives me my weekends back!

It is a supervisor position
