Wagon instead of buggy? Anyone made the change?

DD turns 4 on Friday and we very rarely use the buggy anymore (we have a Babyzen Yoyo so it’s small, and there’s no storage underneath anyway).

I’m toying with the idea of getting one of those festival-style wagons with a canopy for days out; mainly to carry bags, lunchboxes, cool bag etc., but also with the bonus that DD could hop in if she gets tired. We’re off to Legoland this week as a family of four and I know from experience we’ll end up lugging loads around all day; the buggy just isn’t practical for that.

We do have a cool bag rucksack, but it’s not massive, and we’ll definitely need extra bags for food and bits. So the wagon idea is appealing, but I’m wondering if anyone has gone down this route and found it helpful or regretted it?

Is it worth it, or are there downsides I’m not thinking of?

A lot of theme parks don't allow them. They look cumbersome, are hard to steer in crowds and because you're often pulling, you may not be aware of what's going on behind you. I think they're a bit of a fad unless you have a child who's likely to need a lift for much longer such as medical needs, or you often need to take a lot of kit.

I would get one. Honestly we went to a big theme park in Europe recently. I wanted to get a wagon but dh said no and took the buggy for our four year old. It broke within an hour of us getting there. I spent the whole trip looking at all these sensible families with wagons and resenting dh 😂there were tons of them. Kids looked happy sitting in them and all the stuff in one place.

Oh that’s interesting, I didn’t know they aren’t allowed in lots of theme parks! It would be for beach days, country parks etc mostly. I know Legoland allow them as double checked!!

Ah thank you for that. I just hate lugging everything around!!

I think they're a great idea! One of my neighbours has one and uses it to bring stuff to the park for picnics and paddling. They have an elderly dog as well as a 4 year old, so both of those can go in it for the trip home, baby is in a sling.

I used to feel like a pack horse sometimes when my kids were small.
