Baby absolutely hates getting snot cleared

So I'm a FTM and my 10 month old has come down with her first sickness ever, just a cold. She's really struggling at night, but during the day she's in good spirits, just understandably more tired than usual. I've never dealt with her being sick before, and I'm finding it hard giving her the saline spray in the nose and sucking the snots out with the frida sucker thing. I literally have to pin her head down and it makes me feel so so awful, it's over in a few seconds and I give her lots of cuddles after, but I feel like I'm torturing her. It does help a lot in clearing her nose but it still makes me feel awful.

Is there any tips to help baby cope with it better? Or is it just something she's gonna hate no matter what? She's breastfed but I'm not sick myself, would my body still make antibodies to help her even if I'm not sick? I've been sick 4/5 times since she's been born and she's never caught them illnesses off of me.

I used to wait for the golden period about 30 minutes after they fell asleep, when in a deep sleep. Then clean with a cotton bud without waking them. One of mine had particularly sticky snot and the nostrils would block completely.

Just a heads up - I’ve recently found research that hypertonic saline nasal spray (has to be hypertonic, kids sterimar is one!) and a snot sucker is proven to reduce the length and severity of cold symptoms. I have noticed this myself and am quite religious about doing it now! My 7 mo has had several colds (being second baby and a winter one) and she has never suffered for more than a couple of days. I wish I’d known this with my first because it really does seem to help with how long it lasts and how much she suffers! So, in my opinion, it’s worth the moments of discomfort for your baby! I’ve even used it on my three year old (much to his annoyance) as I feel like it’s helped baby girl so much. May she a coincidence of course but the research was shared by a paediatrician so I looked into it myself. Hope the cold has passed now and baby is doing well x
