Pork shoulder, use by the 5th and I just noticed. Was planning to slow cook it and I can cook it tomorrow so 3 days out of date
kept in a fridge at 4c if it matters

I wouldn’t eat chicken that far over but would with beef.. I’m just not sure about pork!

I wouldn’t. I’m very careful about use by dates on meat. It might be fine, but I wouldn’t enjoy eating it.

Not pork. Also, a domestic fridge is very unlikely to be 4C, you are better assuming 8C.

I’ve got 2 thermometers in it, one is a commercial one
(I have medication in my fridge and it’s temperature sensitive)

What kind of packaging is it in? My local butcher does in foil bags. Supermarket does vaccum packed packaging.

I do a pulled pork most weeks and bag and freeze in portions but I totally forgot to check the date

I'm usually very risk averse when it comes to meat, but in this case I think I would see what is smells like. If it still smells fresh then I would cook it as it is going to be very well cooked. If it smells even a tiny bit less than fresh then I wouldnt.

Like others, if it smells OK I would cook today.

It would only be an upset stomach if it wasn’t OK, and I’d look on that as a quick way to shift a few pounds anyway! Cook it - it’s a win-win 😀

I’ve decided to bin it. I’ve had campylobacter from chicken and still haven’t touched chicken since so the last thing I want is to be put off pork!

I would, but then I tend to buy meat from the butchers and it has no date on it so I have to go by what it looks/smells like rather than a date anyway.
