What brands are your cool y6:y7 kids wearing?

need to buy some clothes for the summer and autumn and trying to inject a bit more cool to my kids who are quite young…

This thread is depressing.
We should be teaching 11 year olds that brands and labels are not important.

Do you have tween/teen DC? At that age, fitting in and being accepted is very important to them. Only a few have the confidence and poise to carry off the lofty ideal that none of it matters.

Also enjoying the irony of being told brands aren't important by a poster with a brand name literally in their user name! 😁

Thunderdcc · 07/07/2025 15:12

Nike Pro shorts and White Fox tops for DD1.

She is Y7 and is mainly focused on the style of the clothes so she will buy clothes off Amazon if they fit her vision. She also got quite overexcited in the 915 section of New Look this weekend.

minipie · 07/07/2025 15:19

I have year 5 and 7 girls and it’s a mix of Nike Pro, New Look, H&M and Zara. The odd Abercrombie or Hollister item. Older DD would like Brandy Melville but it won’t fit her yet (bizarre one size only shop?)

White Fox I see around but thankfully not hit my DC’s crowds yet.

Shoes were Air Force but I notice the older teens wearing Gazelles (blast from the past for me!) so no doubt those will be filtering down to the younger ones soon.

However - this is all very area/crowd dependent. If you know anyone already at the senior school suggest asking them rather than MN as it will be more accurate.

I do have a teen.
Thankfully she's never been into this designer nonsense (although she's autistic and autistic teens seem to be much more non caring and whatever about clothes).
I also am very happy with buying other brands of plastic interlocking brick system toys.
Lego, Block Tech, Max, Mega, the non brand specific cheap ones I find in random shops.....I don't really care 😂

People aren't really talking about designer "nonsense" here, just normal high street shops that tweens and teens think are cool. I do agree that some teens can end up being sucked into wanting to spend way too much on very expensive stuff, but the OP isn't asking about that, just for pointers as to where her DDs might shop to feel they fit in at their new school.

Well if she wanted to fit in at the mainstream secondary my daughter started off at (she's at a sen school now) it would be H+M and Primark mostly.

Nike pro’s and a white fox hoody. They may not wear anything else. At least that’s how it seems in my house

Iloveshoes123 · 07/07/2025 15:51

My DD is 11 and Y6 likes Nike particularly wanted Air Jordans! She also likes White Fox which seems to be big at the moment (but only the t-shirts and hoodies).

Genuine question.....
What's so special about the white fox hoodies?
They just seem to be a regular hoody with the words "white fox" on the back.
What makes them so sought after?

minipie · 07/07/2025 15:57

The words “White Fox” I believe.

Just like a lot of Nike stuff is basic £5 shorts or socks but costs £25 because of the logo.

Branding. Same as Nike, adidas, new balance whatever other brands exist. They are a teen brand. I think made famous on TikTok or something. The teens are hooked though and they are nice hoodies to be fair

RTHJ14 · 07/07/2025 16:04

My Y7 girl likes the White Fox, Nike pro look, a bit of Superdry and Juicy in there but she also wears a lot of general sports wear and loves Ralph Lauren. I get most of the pricer stuff from Vinted, and we choose it together.

She’s def not cool if that means naughty kids but I’m happy to buy the odd brand as if she’s comfortable in what she’s wearing that will help her confidence overall.

That's why I find this thread depressing.
Why should a name on an item of clothes matter?
We (society) shouldn't be encouraging this on 11 year olds.
But I know a lot of people think differently so I will bow out of this conversation 🙂

It’s just the branding but to be fair they are really good quality, very thick and comfy. My DS is 12 and the girls he goes to school with are all dressed in Nike and White Fox but they also love a bit of Primark and New Look. Unfortunately for the boys it’s Nike or nothing and their quality is terrible, Adidas is much better but no way is he wearing that.

Be4thedawn · 07/07/2025 16:19

For ymy 9 year old, it's Nike Pro shorts, White Fox hoody and Crocs

Just managed to convert my DCs from Nike to Asics - they were reluctant but converted when trying side by side. If you can persuade him to try Asics on you might have a convert as they are SO comfy and clearly better made than the Nike equivalent .

ZiggyPlaysGuitarrr · 07/07/2025 16:24

I know 3 year 8/9 girls. One wears baggy jeans or joggers, crop tops and hoodies. One wears dungarees or combat trousers, DMs, check shirts, beanie hats, lots of beads. And the 3rd has a goth/emo style with platform boots and lots of black lace and studs.

The first is the most typical, compared to other girls I see.

11 year olds.
Clothes for summer...
They'll need shorts and t-shirts.
Go to Primark.

Not everyone shops in stores which use child labour

But it’s mattered since the Dawn of time. Do you not remember being at school? I’m in my 40s and it mattered then. It still matters now. Should it matter? No. Does it matter to me now? Of course not! But I remember how much it did then.

There are also plenty of people my age with their preferred brand of car, fabric softener, pilates outfits. Like it or not brands matter to many people of all ages not just teens

At my school we didn't have a uniform after the age of 14 and you know what....on the whole no one cared what people wore.
There were fashions that would come and go but no one was into labels or anything.
(early 1990s).

Heartofglass12345 · 07/07/2025 16:50

Oh god why?? I hate it when parents do this, it’s really obvious it’s come from them and not the kids. Wait until they ask!

DT’s went to a non uniform school from ages 4-18. Brands weren’t an issue as no one was interested in what you were wearing. Standard outfits were jeans and a hoodie or shorts and T-shirt. Some had branded but majority supermarket chains.
DT’s bought T-shirts and hoodies from holiday locations and often wore them.

WellyBellyBoo · 07/07/2025 16:52

One DD likes lounge wear, the ubiquitous White Fox hoodie. Nike white trainers. Crop tops and baggy crop t-shirts with ripped jeans or denim/jersey shorts. Other DD baggy combats or baggy jens, floral tops, baggy cropped t-shirts, zip-up unbranded hoodies, baggy loose knit jumpers/cardigans, converse high tops. Both get most stuff from H&M and New Look. Branded shoes always from Vinted. They wouldn't be seen dead in each others clothes though! Maybe show your DD some pictures online and see what she likes. You could get it very wrong for your DDs personality and friend group otherwise so maybe wait until they start secondary and see what they want. Good luck!

TheAquaTraybake · 07/07/2025 17:01

Honestly, people are being a bit harsh here. OP isn't asking for designer clothes.

DS doesn't care about brands but I did ask my friends what was cool with his 15 yr old age group before buying big ticket items. As an ancient being, I see a lot of Superdry out there, but (for example) that is apparently just for 40+ yr olds. 😂 He does still have a coat of theirs because they had one of his favourite colours, so we aren't entirely slaves to fashion, but it was good to know for other purchases.

I work in a school and have been mystified by the draw of White Fox until someone pointed out it's a brand that's been amplified by social media.

It's disingenuous to pretend that brands mean nothing and you can just chuck the kids in some sackcloth. If you're having to buy clothes anyway, and are already spending whatever the amount of money is (as in, you aren't going to go spend more just because of a brand) then why not ask around?
