I’m taking ds14 for a very special treat to Goodwood festival of speed this week. Would really appreciate any tips about where to stand to see things like the hill climb (what is the hill climb?!) , any tips on food (ds has severe nut allergy and hollow legs) , and anything else you wish you’d known your first time

thank you so much! X

I’d take water if it’s going to be warm and some snacks for him, although you’ve probably got that planned anyway.

Are you going by public transport or driving? There is a bus that goes to Goodwood and back. The roads are impossible unless you have booked a car parking space. DH and DS went a couple of years ago. I was going to collect them, but quickly realised it would take hours and we live in the area. They got the bus into Chichester and then a bus home.

Apparently you can’t miss the hill climb! You can book the grandstand, but it’s expensive enough as it is. There are plenty of food stands, so you’ll need to check which of them have the options you need.

DH and DS were exhausted when they got home. It’s very busy, but your son will love it!

Thanks @Bluevelvetsofa ! I’m driving 😳. Sounds like I will need to get there super super early - thanks for the warning! X

E the South road through Chichester as that route gets particularly congested. Coming down from the North there are multiple routes in and traffic is evenly split between different routes meaning you only really hit bad traffic a few miles away.
Pack plenty of food and water in the body of your car as you may need it when stuck in traffic!
You can plan ahead using the Goodwood app that has a function on it that plans your ā€˜ideal Itinerary’ it gives you alerts as to when your desired batches are about to run up the hill.
You'll want to cross over to the east of the track for various things, but otherwise stay on the west. Also be aware that you can't reach the rally stage up the east side of the track on foot (despite the fact that the tractor shuttle goes that way).
We found the section in front of Goodwood House wasn't bad, on either side of the track, but especially on the house side as there's a small rise that gives you a good view down the track towards the first corner.
The area in front of the Flint Wall grandstand was also good.
Eating early/later is better as queues to get food are v long in some places.
The ā€˜assembly area ’ is the place to be if you want to spot famous drivers. Drivers will sign autographs and sometimes hand out free merch.

It might be useful to check where the bus from Chichester goes from. There are plenty of central car parks and the bus to Goodwood might be better than traffic at Goodwood itself.
