Just that really - I love them, particularly in a fruit salad... but nowhere to be found except in Chinese supermarkets....

But masses of lychee flavoured drinks and puds!

I dont understand... and am sad...

Haha. I had your problem 12 months ago.

I couldn't find them in any supermarket even Waitrose and the bigger Tesco and Sainsburys.

Amazon had them but the cost was excessive - I guess they had to build in the "free" postage.

In the end I found them in the city oriental supermarkets and I found my rice noodles there too (they were quite a good price on amazon and ive been getting them delivered for years). Anyway, city shopping now includes an oriental shop visit. I recommend their Oyster Sauce and Brinjal Pickle (much bigger for same price as a regular supermarket).

I think there were terrible lychee harvests in south east Asia the last couple of years, which will have pushed price and supply up enough that supermarkets are less likely to carry them. They’re a fundamental ingredient for some cake my British-Malaysian friend makes for a festival of some sort, which is where I got that niche information. Having to go to Chinese supermarkets isn’t a bad thing though - I always go in for chilli oil and return with snacks I didn’t know I didn’t need!

My local Indian supermarket has them. Big tin for £2.

Tinned lychees ???? Yuck !
fresh ones ?? The best !!!

tiny punnet in supermarket for £4 - just 2 weeks of the year ?? - ugh !

I was wondering that, just the other day. Haven't seen tinned or fresh lychees for ages. I do prefer the fresh ones but the tinned ones save on peeling!

the tinned ones definitely best in fruit salads - much firmer, and succulent
