Now I think the obvious answer to this is yes! However someone asked it a a party last night, and quite a few people so no or not on short journeys, maybe only in the front seat (type answers).

Really surprised me

Most car journeys are 3 miles or less. Most accidents happen within 3 miles of home. It sounds like most of the people saying they wouldn't wear a seat belt have not seen what happens to people who have been in accidents. they are frankly idiots.

I too remember the ad about people in the back seats wearing their seat belts. Send your friends this link

I am old enough to remember a time when there were no rear seat belts, and learned to drive before it was law to wear one in front. I always wore one if it was available, even before the law.

Same. I have always worn one. It is an automatic thing for me - get in the car and belt up.

Idiots is indeed the word.

Surely it should be illegal to sell these things

It probably is, but amazon sells so many direct imports through third parties and they don't bother to police them.

You can buy all kinds of things on amazon that don't meet UK safety standards.

irregularegular · 06/07/2025 16:22

Absolutely! Why wouldn't you? It's not exactly hard to put it on and wear it and the effect on safety had been huge. I'd feel really odd without it.

luckylavender · 06/07/2025 16:25

Yes although I remember them coming in (was already driving) and I used to go out of my way to fasten it so it was only round my lower half. Big chest was always an irritant.

Wasn’t it the case that the only person who survived the Princess Diana crash was the security man who put his seat belt on?

Yes. The pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd said Diana would have survived with just minor injuries had she been wearing a seat belt.
