What does Chat GPT actually do?

I’ve heard of it, obviously, but I’ve never used it or downloaded it.

I assume people use it for writing things, like formal letters, but what else might the everyday person use it for?
I’m a bit bewildered by it really. Can you talk to it?

My son using it for lots of things. I am baffled / wary but have dipped my toe in.
I asked it to design a 'cat wall' for my bored indoor cats and it was amazing ! Gave me lists of things I could order, where to order, specifications and everything. Has yet to materialise but I have a comprehensive idea of how to move it forward/costs involved etc. And I used it to write formal letters in Spanish (though goodness knows if there were errors as I only did a perfunctory google translate check) So it's definitely a useful tool to have in the box all in all. Just seen @Lunaballoon 's post - yes totally this !

I use it all the time.

I have terrible health anxiety and I spend my life asking what such and such a symptom might be, I know this is bad by the way.

I just used it for work to help me plan a workshop. It came up with some great ideas and timings that I used as a basis to deliver it. If you use the right prompts and check the info it can really help with writer's block and inspiration.

Grok posting antisemitic negationist conspiracy theories again today, which is nice

If you are asking it for facts, ask it to cite where it has got its information from. Then you can check any details yourself. Or you can ask it to get its info only from recognised sources etc

It's funny, sometimes I learn best by neat or creative uses - like I know its AI but so what? Friend of mine was using it for data analysis because her work calls for that but I found this video helpful, 15 suprising uses for ChatGPT: https://www.aimashtube.com/video/zIWqTJu9HaA

Apparently Google has an AI model too, similiar idea but my other friend created the most amazing and beautiful infographics for her work presentation. She said it was free, couldn't believe it. It looked that good! AI can be scary and all, not sure where this is all going but some of the ways it can help are amazing. And feel old lol
