Chessington or Legoland with a 2 year old?

It's my daughter's birthday soon and I'd like to take her to either Chessington or Legoland to celebrate.

I'm just not sure which one she'd enjoy more, I understand she won't be able to get on most rides as she's under 0.9m but what would be the most exciting experience for her?

How's the Chessington Zoo? I guess if we end up going there we'll expose her to the different kinds of animals...whereas Legoland will be more about building things.

Can't do Peppa World as it's a bit too far.

I'm just confused between the two and need to make a decision soon.

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I’d take her somewhere local like a petting zoo at that age.

Leenacoler · 04/07/2025 23:26

Mine loved Legoland at that age. We haven't been to Chessington so can't compare.

Summerbubbles · 04/07/2025 23:29

Honestly, at that age, either of those options will be quite overwhelming for a two year old and unlikely to be enjoyable for any of you.

I'm with this suggestion.

Either that or a farm park, miniature railway, big playground and a picnic. That's more than enough. A whole day out somewhere massive with a ruinously expensive gift shop is going to be totally overwhelming really. Save your money for when the dc is a little older.

Lighttodark · 04/07/2025 23:38

Agree with above. How about odds farm or chobham adventure play - not far from Windsor/west London.

Yellowcakestand · 04/07/2025 23:42

We went to both CBEEBIES Land (Alton Towers) and Peppa pig world at a toddler age. Peppa pig world was a great day out, made up of 2 parks and a garden and bird area. Lots to do and my son could go on all of the rides at 3 years old.

Needmorelego · 04/07/2025 23:46

If you live in London then Battersea Children's Zoo in Battersea Park is nice plus you then have the rest of the park to explore.

stichguru · 04/07/2025 23:46

I wouldn't bother with either at 2. Haven't been to Chessington, but have been to Legoland and I's say there's stuff for a two year old if you were taking older siblings who really wanted to go, but just for the two year old, she'll be able to go in a couple of years and do so much more! Go somewhere local more aimed at her age - a farm or park.

ShrimpBoil · 04/07/2025 23:51

Bekonscot or Odds Farm much better at that age I think.

GeneralSettings · 04/07/2025 23:52

Legoland is more rides and things, and she'll be too small tor them. It's good but best for about ages 3-7.

friskybivalves · 04/07/2025 23:54

Bocketts Farm jd you’re anywhere near Chessington. It is great.

minnienono · 04/07/2025 23:56

Honestly? Neither. Local farm park or even just the normal play park and an ice cream will be far better as they won’t remember it

GeneralSettings · 04/07/2025 23:56

Bekonscot or Odds Farm much better at that age I think.
You could do both in one day. We used to do the petting farm, Waitrose picnic, then late afternoon cut price Bekonscot.

DoloresOnTheDottedLine · 05/07/2025 07:11

Similar neck of the woods is Hobbledown in Epsom which I cannot recommend highly enough for that age. Animals, loads of climbing and exploring and soft Play, jumping and water pillows, large scale wooden village type imaginative play (can’t think of a better way to describe it but it’s ace!). I used to
live nearby and had an annual pass when my DD was the same age. She absolutely loved it.

If you are really set on Chessington or Legoland then I’d say Chessington because of zoo.

Birdwordie · 05/07/2025 07:17

I agree with others, I wouldn't do either that age. I took my eldest to Chessington for his 5th birthday, we left 2 hrs later it was a shambles! And he was that bit older. I took my eldest to London zoo this year as he could choose and it was easy going, a lot more manageable. A zoo etc would be more appropriate, I think you'd all get a lot more out of it, cheaper and you could find one local to you so you're not driving such a distance. My youngest birthday is Tuesday he will be 3, I was debating legoland too but then thought of potential meltdowns so going off to a farm instead. Hope you enjoy your day whatever you do!

I was going to suggest this. Or Hobbledown.

Lindy2 · 05/07/2025 07:22

I'd say Legoland is better for that age.

There are some toddler rides and there is the splash area which I think a 2 year old would enjoy.

Paultons Park would be the most suitable. It might be worth the extra distance if you could manage it.

TizerorFizz · 05/07/2025 07:26

At 2 she will be too young or too short for rides. I’d save the money. I’m assuming the trip was really for you? You could go to Whipsnade Zoo. Take the car in and a picnic. Our dc used to love it there. Depends where you live though.

Pottingup · 05/07/2025 07:35

We live quite near Chessington and used to go nearly weekly (had passes) when my kids were that age. There are enough rides for little ones and soft play and mine liked the shows and characters. It’s a good mix to be able to see the animals. Don’t go if the queues are going to be long though - you’d be better off at Hobbledown as pp suggested.
I think I prefer Chessington to Legoland for that age if they like seeing animals.

moving300m · 05/07/2025 07:38

I’ve been to both with a 2 year old. There are suitable rides at both and had multiple enjoyable days out. On balance for age 2 I think Chessington is slightly better, but you can’t go wrong with either.

Love both of these - but depending on where you are, I've recently discovered Willows Farm near St Albans which is Peter Rabbit themed and has so much more than Odds!

Bocketts Farm is brilliant!

supercalifragilistic123 · 05/07/2025 07:46

Chessington is great for that age. There are loads of suitable rides. I would go on a school day and take advantage of their toddler deal. It used to be £20 for a adult and toddler but might have gone up.
I first took my daughter when she was less than 1 and she could go on lots of things.
The trouble with legoland is it is normally busier and the queues are longer. Whilst the better rides for a 2yo at Chessington are typically quieter.
Chessington has a small zoo and small sealife centre to break the day up from the rides. The gruffallo ride is a highlight for that age!

WhenYouSayNothingAtAll · 05/07/2025 07:58

I’d say Chessington. You have all the animals and Sea Life . There are nice shows for the little ones .Do they still have the birds feeding area? A couple of rides she might be able to go on as well.
