Who pays for graduation tickets?

Hi, my younger sister is graduating. She is expecting me to buy the tickets for my sister and I.
When you graduated, did you buy tickets for your family or did they buy their own? They are £30 each.

Thanks in advance

I went to all three of DB’s graduations and paid for my tickets.

Guests/parents should pay for their own, it's not fair to expect her to pay for your tickets. If she was taking part in a theatre production or some kind of show, you wouldn't expect her to buy your tickets I am sure. If you're taking the role of Guardian in place of parents, I think it's right that you buy the tickets. If your parents are going in the role of Guardian then they should be buying yours too. If you'd rather not pay, and there's other people there to clap for your sister, you could always just meet her afterwards and celebrate. £30 seems a bit extortionate - it's not as if they're very entertaining, you're literally just there to cheer on the person you love.

I can't remember if we had to pay for tickets, but I definitely didn't pay for anything for my graduation- my parents covered it.

I think it' would be quite unusual for the graduate to pay for tickets for people to come to their graduation (or gown hire, photos, and even a celebration meal). They have just finished uni so are unlikely to be fully fledged adults. It might be different if it were a mature student with their own home and partner I guess.

Ours were free for both DCs graduations.

i got 2 free tickets and then I brought 3 more so that both dds, DH and my parents could all come. My ticket was also free.

I paid, but I was in my 30s. We will buy our own tickets to the dds if we need to pay.

My dd has her graduation in a couple of weeks. She's been allocated 2 free tickets and I have paid for her gown.

Ours were free I’m sure! I don’t remember anyone paying. This was in 2001 though

I paid for all the tickets for family members for my recent graduation. However, I am the mum in the situation so my husband and I happily paid for adult children (who took the day off work) and grandchild to attend. It was a fabulous family celebration and one I will always remember.
