Who looked after the first baby? Help me answer this question from my 3yo

My 3yo has started asking questions.... normally I can answer/Google but this one has me stumped, so I'm turning to mumsnet for help...

'Who looked after the first baby, if there were no parents?'

Why is that difficult? Surely you just tell them that only women can have babies so the men need to adopt if they want children. You don’t need to get into turkey basters or surrogacy!

Usborne has an Evolution book in there 'See Inside' series. It's a lift the flap book and the pictures are interesting so it could be a good one to look at (although obviously the full explanation is probably a little much for a three year old).
