Do you ever feel like you need to buy something to feel better?

To cure irritation or fatigue that come with high pressure, family commitments and just general doom and gloom? Most days I run to off, or have a bath, or go for walk, a call a friend. But sometimes I need to swipe the card - a lipstick, a bunch of flowers, new underwear. Just that little act of rebellion against being good and useful all the time. I don’t NEED the thing, but it’s like a painkiller in the moment.

Yes I do this sometimes. I try not to spend anything on myself unless its essential. Any money I spend is food, bills or stuff for the kids. But sometimes I just feel the need to buy something for me if it has been a while. It can be as simple as a pack of socks, but it instantly cheers me up as I have something new for myself.

I have recently sold quite a lot on vinted, so I just keep my money that I make from there in my account, and every so often will use it to buy something and I don't get the guilt as its not coming out of my bank account 😅

Very much so, and I have to work hard to curb it. I call it ADHD tax, as it's done impulsively and very much part of my neurodivergence.

Yes I'm feeling very overwhelmed and anxious at the moment and I really want to buy myself a dragonfruit dragon from build a bear. I've got a bit of a habit of buying soft toys when I'm struggling, I want to be a kid again!

Yes! Buying anything helps doesn’t have to be for me. I’m trying to stop myself because otherwise my niece ends up with outfits she will soon grow out of

It’s called Retail Therapy and it’s been around for years!

@BananaSqueezer OMG, of course, now it makes perfect sense.

I do, but for me its ADHD impulsive buying to get a dopamine hit. I regret as soon as said item arrives realising I don't need or doesn't fit. But I carry on doing it!

I don't do it to feel better, but I do very much recognise how good it feels to purchase things, so I get it!
