I have moved to a new city and want to try getting my shops delivered as I dont have a car.
In the poll are the supermarkets that can deliver to me. I would like to hear which one you think I should trial for a month or two first!
Im a single person and am vegetarian. I'm not pinching pennies, but also not rolling in it, hence why Waitrose, Ocado and M&S aren't on my list.
Would be good to hear especially from people who get their stuff delivered. The only one I have tried before is Sainsbury's which i think is okay, but for some reason I dont like their interface. Still happy to hear from yiu if you think they are the best of the bunch.

A vegetarian diet from Ocado doesn't have to be expensive. You also don't have to use the same site each time.

You could try them all in turn and see what works out best for you.

But you might find you spend enough for minimum basket levels or the delivery cost is significant so see which of these is lowest.

I'm not sure if it's universal, but when I've shopped with Ocado, delivery is free and the minimum spend is £40, plus there's lots of good offers, so it seems decent value to me.

Ocado is great alright, but they used to chuck loads of special offers and discounts my way and then just randomly stopped

I just checked and they say "Ocado Price Promise
We now match your like-for-like shop to Tesco and send you a voucher if there’s a difference."

That's quite cool actually!

Another person voting for Ocado. They are in a different league @SayLaveee

Avengersassembly · 03/07/2025 12:22

Also vote for Ocado. They send a voucher if your shopping would have been cheaper at Tesco. The difference is a £1pr 2 on £120 shop and I often don’t get a voucher at all.

SayLaveee · 03/07/2025 18:43

I feel like I should have thrown Ocado into the arena because actually now im leaning towards them!
Sad there's so little love for Asda and Morrisons 😅 what gives?

OP posts:
WhoWouldBeAWoman · 03/07/2025 22:25

We have Morrison's and Tesco (and Aldi and Lidl) in the nearest town. Only a Nisa type shop in my village.
I do my main shop in Morrison's. I can get 99% of what I need there. I go to Aldi for a few specific things. But I like the range of stuff in Morrison's. No use to you, but I like their butcher counter. They have a good selection of fruit veg, canned pulses, spices, that sort of thing. I have found their wine selection a bit rubbish /expensive which is one of the reasons I go to Aldi...
Hate Tesco with a passion, and it's twice as far to Asda so I'm happy with Morrison's.

Ursulla · 03/07/2025 22:39

If I had to rely on deliveries I'd do a mix of Ocado and Iceland. Ocado week to week and Iceland every now and again for a big shop to fill up the freezer with easy cook food. I'd still use Ocado for things like frozen basic fish fillets and chicken thighs etc because ime it works out cheaper than Iceland.

All the others piss around too much with prices and substitions and it's annoying. Our local Morrisons in particular is bloody diabolical, to the point I've had to do a shopping trip myself for all the missing items, that were things I needed.

BloodandGlitter · 03/07/2025 22:42

Ocado is the only one I would rate, I've tried Sainsburys and Morrisons and stuff came seriously short dated.
As you check out on Ocado they offer flash sales of 40% off and the offers tend to change on a daily basis, I'm disabled on benefits and it's how I get most of my meat.

BloodandGlitter · 03/07/2025 22:43

Just to add I think Morrisons is more expensive than Ocado!

Ursulla · 03/07/2025 22:47

Expensive and there's been a noticeable decline in quality since BrexCov.

Tesco are reliable, I'll give them that. But it's so much faff now with all the clubcard tiers and delivery plans that I cba with them.

Asda, bless them, are just shit on all fronts.

Myfridgeiscool · 03/07/2025 22:52

Tesco are my regular delivery as I can always get a convenient slot at short notice.
I like the Sainsbury’s stores better.
The veg from Ocado is superior, great quality.

Mossstitch · 03/07/2025 23:17

Another one voting ocado, I've tried them all and I'm not rich. They give a price match promise voucher if your shop would have been cheaper at tesco, I've only got it twice as I know my prices and always buy in bulk if items are on offer that i use regularly. I also do walk to local asda too but get a large monthly shop delivered with all the heavy stuff in it. I cook from scratch and often find that m & s basics are cheaper (eg their unrefined castor sugar for baking is 25p cheaper than billingtons) and ocado own brand bread flour, butter and passata are better than anywhere else. Its also nice to be able to get certain m & s goods that are just nicer and worth the extra 😋 They have recently changed their app so it tells you yo the minute when they are going to arrive and you can pay £1 delivery if you pick a 4 hour slot.

MartinAynuss · 03/07/2025 23:31

I'm a vegetarian and I love Sainsburys. Their plant pioneer range is excellent for the days you cannot be arsed to cook properly. The Chorizo type sausages are fantastic in a spicy pasta bake. The caramelised onion sausages are brilliant in a toad in the hole.
I think their fruit and veg are great as well. I have used Morrisons and Tesco and I still think Sainsbos are far fresher and last longer.

Growlybear83 · 03/07/2025 23:32

I’ve used ocado since they first started about 25 years ago, and I think they’re brilliant. The quality of their fruit, vegetables, and meat is better than any other supermarkets I’ve used, and i think only Waitrose and M&S come near. I think their prices are competitive especially if you take advantage of their special offers. They’ve got a far larger selection of organic foods than anywhere else, even Waitrose. In all the time I’ve used them, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times my order has been late. It’s quite rare to get substitutions, and when this does happen, they send sensible replacements. And best of all, everything arrives in carrier bags, which the driver will carry in to the room of your choice.

UnPetitCochon · 03/07/2025 23:34

The problem with Ocado is that they have M&S and you just end up adding M&S stuff to your basket so it ends up way more than if you bought stuff with any of the other supermarkets.

user1471530109 · 03/07/2025 23:47

I use Tesco regularly. Probably by habit. But I've heard so many horror stories of Asda not delivering and keeping money, or Sainsbury's not price matching and charging higher price for substitute etc. Tesco has never let me down.. even all the way through COVID.

I have used ocado. Not since they have stopped being with Waitrose. That's not the reason. I just found it more expensive.

However. I do shop pretty regularly in Aldi. I wish they did delivery!

Kimwestonhelpless · 03/07/2025 23:50

Asda been shopping there for over 20 years.
Tesco our next closest way too expensive.
Lidl ok for a few select items.

Monicaca · 03/07/2025 23:58

Another vote for Ocado. I am also a vegetarian.

CatchHimDerry · 04/07/2025 00:00

Ocado, definitely, though still a few stock issues where we are at the moment so topping up with Aldi shops, which we do anyway for certain items

NotMeekNotObedient · 04/07/2025 00:02

We like Sainsbury's, main reason is they have a good gluten free selection.

mrsfollowill · 04/07/2025 00:06

I've voted Sainsburys and get a delivery maybe once a month but have an Ocado delivery weekly. Don't dismiss them as too expensive it depends what you buy. They are very consistent and reliable and price matched to Tesco. I've had deliveries and shopped in person at all on your list over the last 20 yrs, Worst ASDA best Ocado or Sainsbury's. Morrisons used to be good for while but the day I had 27 crap substitutions was the day I gave up with them!

MotherJessAndKittens · 04/07/2025 00:11

I use Tesco and have no probs though I prefer click and collect. My DM got Sainsburys and coop for my gran when she wasn’t able to go and both were ok but then she stopped needing so much so coop was better. Delivery drivers helped her especially during COVID which was so kind. Waitrose and Ocado? not so good in our area and their prices in store are a joke! I get a lot in Aldi but have to go there and Costco for bulk buys. Asda fine but further away.

simsbustinoutmimi · 04/07/2025 00:11

As an allrounder, Morrisons. Tesco and Sainsbury’s are too pricey, and I think Asda’s own brand products are rubbish.

That "Asda, bless them" has really tickled me 😅
