Loop earplugs, an alternative??

Mudflaps · 01/07/2025 02:22

Almost two years ago I purchased a set of Loop 'quiet' earplugs to help me sleep while away camping and realised they simply changed my life, no exaggeration, they did. After over 25 years of being an extremely light sleeper and constantly waking or hardly sleeping at all I realised it was because I heard everything and then lay there waiting to hear the next noise. These earplugs meant I got proper sleep for the first time in decades so you'd think I would have stocked up but I'm an idiot and didn’t. Three weeks ago I lost my earplugs, house and car have been searched but no sign so I ordered new ones (2 sets) and I received them a few days ago BUT they're not the same, these are called 'Quiet 2' and they just don't work for me, they are more solid, less pliable, don't fit as well, they hurt my ears after a while (I'm a side sleeper) and while they block out some noise it is not enough. I'm back to having shitty nights with bugger all sleep but at least I now know why so can all you wonderful people help me find earplugs that actually work and can be worn all night by a side sleeper. I have in the past tried the foam type, the wax ones and some designed for swimmers, none of these were successful. I'm so disappointed in Loop, I had also bought some adjustable ones for whwn I'm out in noisy places which I found good, used them a few times at motorshows and car rallying and they really helped but I gave them to my son and I'm reluctant to replace them from Loop incase they've also been changed.

Sorry for the length but please suggest alternatives to Loop Quiet 2 which will basically deafen me when I use them so I can get some sleep again.

This is such a specific question - have you tried contacting Loop and asking them?

chunkybear · 01/07/2025 05:26

My children both have sensory processing issues due to ASD, school and ed psych both recommended Flares, there are choices so look for something that may suit your needs

PenguinLover24 · 01/07/2025 05:28

I haven't found an alternative yet (I'll admit I've not tried very hard 😂) but I agree the loops hurt my ears too! It's so disappointing 😭

Boriswentcamping · 01/07/2025 06:25

I have just ordered some custom made acs musicians plugs, I use them for music but they are great. This is my second pair.

I noticed they make one called ACS sleep sound. They are not cheap! You have to have an impression taken of your ear but you can do this at an audiologist or hearing care place. But then they are custom fitted and very comfortable, I trust them more than the loops when it comes to loud noise. I’ve used the loop quite, but I prefer these..

I think they are about £150 so definitely an investment

I use Ozlo sleep plugs. They are really expensive, but worth it for me if it means I actually sleep! They play white noise or you can listen to music/poscasts

Wildhorsesdraggedme · 01/07/2025 06:41

Have you tried eBay? I googled and can see the original “quiet” and not the quiet 2.

I love my loops, I have the quiet and the switch but I have a ridiculously loud herd of cows in the field behind my bedroom window at the moment.

I moved many years ago so we have no traffic, no neighbours, just fields surrounding me but bloody hell the cows and loud owls are so noisy I’ve had to buy these plugs Sleep plugs and listen to rain or waves or other ambient noise to block it out.

They are so comfy I don’t know I’m wearing them and they automatically put my phone onto do not disturb until I take them out in the morning.
I bought them whilst my AirPods are being repaired and they are useless for talking on calls but I’ll keep them for drowning out the cows. Luckily the cows don’t stay long then they go away and come back next spring the bloody owls are a menace all year round - and buzzards!

Happy Ears - they changed my life!

Yes, they no longer sell 'Quiet', 'Quite 2' is their improved version.

The first set were great, easy to wear, worked perfectly, did the job and didnt hurt but the new ones are a waste of money. I miss the quality of sleep I used to get.

I could not get on with loop. I buy cheap silicone ear plugs. Little mouldable balls of silicone and for me they are far superior on terms of noise reduction. https://amzn.eu/d/iVOl73u

I tried Ebay but didn't see any seller I'd be confident using, a lot of the advertised ear plugs looked like knock offs. I know what you mean about country life being noisy, I've always lived rurally and between the dawn chorus, foxes, cows, the crows and my wonderful 80 year old neighbour who goes for the paper on his tractor which is as old as himself it can be noisy but I love it!! Thank you for the recommendation, I hadn't considered Bluetooth phones/plugs, do these block out as much as the Quiet without playing anything through them?

Thank you, I'll look at these but do they block noise entirely without the need to play something through them? I'm looking for silence, no background noise, podcasts, white noise etc.

Thank you, these sound interesting. My husband has moulded earphones for the intercom system in a rally car and it never occurred to me that I could get similar for silence.

Happy Ears - they changed my life!

Thank you, I'll take a look at these. I found the original Loop to be life changing too, couldn't believe that after decades of not sleeping it was something so simple that gave me proper sleep and I miss it now.

Temu do exactly the same as the original loop ones. I’ve not noticed any difference when wearing them.

My friend bought them from Temu and showed me, they are not the same and didn’t work at all for me when I tried them. Much lighter and poorer quality.
