Full body mole checks

I'm blessed with lots of moles, which every pregnancy has added to! Some are in annoying places such as around my bra.

I also have a family history of skin cancer, my mum has had at least 3 removed and is now like a vampire - can not let the sun touch her skin!

I'd like a full body check, but don't expect the NHS to pay for it.

I know in Australia it's really normal to have annual mole checks. Does a similar service exist in the UK?

A quick Google is confusing - it seems available via some private hospitals but I would have thought it was more easily available than this.

Any advice from those who have had a full body mole check?

Sorry I can't help but I'm in the same boat so wanted to join thread to see if any helpful responses!

Same, also following I think boots can have a look at some but for a full body check I'm not sure

I would ask your GP. I have certainly consulted them a few times about moles and other raised itchy areas. Never had a full body check, but I don't have a lot of spots.

I went to the GP with a dodgy mole and was referred for its removal. The consultant then did a full body check of my numerous moles that are all asymmetrical, some are dark etc. I was then sent for ‘mole mapping’ where they take photos of your whole body so that if you see any changes in a mile, you can see and compare what the mole used to be like. It has proved very useful to have. (Lord, the mole mapping was in a hospital but was basically a photography studio complete with white background to stand against. Me, in my underwear 🤣)

Jeez that sounds like that awful Trinny & Suzannah mirror box thing 😂
Did you have to pay for the mapping?

That is the key phrase for it "mole mapping" in google. A skin clinic I went to for a BCC removal does it. I have 3 moles on my entire body and for some reason they are on my boobs and one between my legs Grin mortifying.

Dh is like a complicated dot to dot he has so many. I used to circle any moles I was concerned about on him but I want him to have his moles mapped.

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 30/06/2025 19:26

I have so many, I don't think it's reasonable to ask the GP, as none are super concerning. But I'd like an expert to review.

I'll Google mole mapping.

Annoyingly, the NHS dermatologist who checked DH's funny mole lives on our street! It would be so convenient if he had a private practice at home.

I get these now as I’ve had skin cancer, a private gp near me does it, it’s a £120.

ginandoreos · 30/06/2025 20:31

@OntheupsoIam Was this at a South London Hospital? I had exactly the same - the photo studio complete with stage was not what I was expecting!

I have yearly NHS mole checks. I take my spiral bound book of photos (they are horrendous 😆) and the doctor checks my whole body and makes comparisons.

I am very grateful for this.

I had a pre cancerous mole removed from my back, it was a friend who noticed it had changed and asked me to get it checked. Prior to this I had several others removed which were fine. After the pre cancerous mole removal the nurse asked if I wanted a full body check which I did. I have moles in radom places like my navel and between two toes. I would suggest taking photos and comparing them every few months too.

DearMartha · 30/06/2025 20:43

I go to the Mole Clinic once a year for a full body map

Boots will do up to 4 moles, if that helps anyone. £40 for the first, £20 for each after that.

Thanks for the link. I never knew they did this.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 16/12/2025 07:13

Ive been looking at the mole mapping services because the Boots thing doesn't make sense to me, how can I tell you which 4 moles I want you to look at when I can't see half of them on my back. I've got LOADS of moles and I take meds that massively increase my sensitivity to UV and risk of skin cancer. I'm definitely looking at the mole mapping idea.

AlternativeView · 16/12/2025 07:25

@ZigZagIntoTheBlue how much are they ?
