Would you let your 11 wear this?

DD (11 but very tall, and long out of the children’s ranges, so we’re struggling) and I are going around in circles on trying to find her some clothes to go on holiday. We’ve ordered this in black and she wants to wear it with black boots - goth style. She doesn’t have any curves yet, so it’s flat against her chest and everything is well- covered. Do you think it’s inappropriate for an 11 year old?

Sorry - that should read, “Would you let your 11 year old wear this?”.

Wear what?

Wanderinginthewilderness · 30/06/2025 17:19

Sigh. I’m an idiot 😳. Sorry. This:

If everything is covered it’s fine in my view.

Seeline · 30/06/2025 17:26

It's absolutely fine! Why wouldn't it be?

SkankingWombat · 30/06/2025 17:26

I wouldn't have an issue with my 11 year old wearing it, as long as it was appropriate to the day's activities (eg not if going to the trampoline park or for a bike ride etc).

This.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 30/06/2025 17:28

Yes, what's your objection?

Lins77 · 30/06/2025 17:28

Yes, absolutely.

My DD was a nightmare at 11 (puberty hit early and hard) and it was a constant battle to get her to wear suitable clothes and not plaster her face with makeup.

I'm so glad those days are gone!

WonderingWanda · 30/06/2025 17:31

Yes I would.

Have you tried New Look, they have a great range of tween clothes. Also Primark have some and my dd fits in some ladies XXS in Primark as well.

averylongtimeago · 30/06/2025 17:32

That is a pretty dress- why don’t you like it?
(didn’t see the back view)

Foreverm0re · 30/06/2025 17:34

It’s a normal looking dress. What’s the issue?

PrincessofWells · 30/06/2025 17:36

It's sweet rather than sexy - what's the problem?

Wanderinginthewilderness · 30/06/2025 17:36

Thank you, everyone. I didn’t actually have an objection and had been reasonably happy to buy it for her, but her friend’s mum was horrified and told DD she definitely shouldn’t be wearing it to a restaurant on holiday. I was a bit surprised and was second-guessing myself a bit. Thanks for the sanity check!

Absolutely fine. The only problem I had with DD's outgrowing of children sizes when she was 10/11 that lots of dresses were too wide or low cut, she didin't have the necessary boob to fill it out.

Glittertwins · 30/06/2025 17:57

It’s fine for her, I’d just have it tried on to make sure it’s not gaping at top as you say she doesn’t have any curves (or have it taken in a little).

bunnyzip · 30/06/2025 17:59

I think it’s fine! I’d prefer if the neckline was straight across rather than v neck for an 11yr but considering it’s not from the kids section it’s pretty conservative

Laiste · 30/06/2025 18:09

I've got a DD the same age and we too have started to have to trawl the S and XS in the ladies sections now.

I have to pick carefully with tops/dresses because the necklines gape weirdly unless they are quite high and round. For my DD this dress would be gapey cos DD has v small chest still. But you could shorten the straps maybe ?

ramonaquimby · 30/06/2025 18:25

it's just a dress , don't see your issue
