Using Amazon tablet just for kindle

Hotdayinjuly · 28/06/2025 21:44

My kids both use Amazon tablets in the kids mode. There’s lots of books on there I’d like to give them access to but the other content is a bit of a distraction. Is there a relatively simple way of only allowing access to only the kindle app after a certain time?

Kindle does not require a constant internet connection to read the books, only to download them. You could put it on airplane mode or switch off the wifi. Otherwise, no.

Thanks this might be the way to go.

Yes, you can set screen time limits for kids’ profiles. I haven’t got ours nearby but on the tablets themselves, tap the icon that’s I think top right and you’ll see a clock icon - go through that and it will ask you to go into your profile, where you can set up screen time and Learn First (that restricts what they can access and when). Alternatively, you can do it via https://parents.amazon.co.uk/.

It’s v v helpful - I love how much it can be tailored per day and per child (and also changed or paused on the fly when needed…).

Good point. I think kindle is quite a bit cheaper and takes up less room but I hate the way books are falling out of favour.

OP wants her kids to be able to read kindle on the tablet but not use the internet. Doing this means everything will go off when screen time limit has been reached, even the kindle app.

No - the Learn First settings in screen time settings mean you can tailor exactly what they’re able to get to and when.

If OP goes into those settings, she’s able to specify everything is shut off except books or educational apps and she can set how long that applies for each of those two categories.
