Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The cats have been fed & disappeared back upstairs already. No-one else is up yet, although dd1's work alarm went off at 9am, so I'll nip and make sure she's awake in a mo.

Plan for today is more packing boxes - although our current LL is ignoring the Estate Agent's reference request so it may be a bit pointless <sigh>. And start making some friendship bracelets with dd2. There aren't many boxes and we're not making many bracelets so neither will take long 🤷‍♀️.

I also want to do a bit of cutting out for work, and dd wants to start planning for her next assessment so we'll both do that later on.

If there's time, I'll chill with my paints for an hour before cooking tea. We're having pork loin steaks with garlic roast potatoes and salad 😋. Accompanied by a glass of wine for me.

This evening will be spent reading, with Glasto in the background I think.

What about all of you? 🙂

@lucysmam its been quite warm as the sun is shining (and doesn't really cool down at night because the sun only sets for a little bit, which keeps it warmer even though the temps aren't that high - around 16-18 degrees), was too hot hiking up a hill yesterday in light trousers and t-shirt. There's been summers though that its been in the high 20s, proper heatwaves.

We're at the cafe now, and saw a herd of reindeer walk past. There's also been one hanging around on the field next to the house

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I’m having an annoying time trying to buy from M&S, which doesn’t recognise my login and then tells me that I’m not online.

I give up!

I think M & S are still having problems from the hack? Thought their online sales are still unavailable but I could be wrong.

AbzMoz · 28/06/2025 10:50

Hi @ShipshapeShore
Your DD will remember the smiles and the cake and the games and the guests as a great day. you don’t need to put on a “perfect” day at all and are entitled to enjoy it like others undoubtedly will. Make it as easy as possible for yourself. No one expects a pristine house or haute cuisine. If you can, give very clear instructions to other grown ups or old enough kids that they’re responsible for a particular job or two, so they’re to always top up the squash jug, or make sure the Spotify playlist is still playing.

sincerely - happy birthday party to BOTH you and DD!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 28/06/2025 10:55

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I have had two coffees and a buttered roll. The bed is stripped and the whites washed. They are busily tumbling away at the moment. No chance of hanging the washing out as it's very showery here. I've been to Aldi and spent more than I planned. My unnecessary purchase was a solar lamp in pink to match the one in blue already adorning the rowan tree.
Today is housework day. I'll clean the bathroom and polish and hoover. The kitchen is superficially clean and tidy but needs every cupboard cleaned thoroughly. That's a job for a wet day. I have no plans for today. It'll either be fajitas or boeuf stroganoff for dinner. Enjoy your day all

Just in the airport lounge before my flight to Turkey. So excited for this holiday and to be warm I have nothing planned but to turn over when I’m sunbathing 😂

Simonjt · 28/06/2025 11:02

Good morning, we’re in Sitges, it’s very hot, 30 as a high today and averaging 33ish for the rest of the week. The kids are both playing in the pool (their Papa is supervising), we’re going to Barcelona later to meet up with a friend who moved there last year, so that will be good as we haven’t seen them since they moved. They’re going to cook dinner for us, so it will be nice not having to think about that.

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Love reading these threads at the weekend.

I have been up ages although slept in until 8.45 which is very unusual for me. Just had a bowl of bran flakes and a banana for breakfast and am having a coffee.

Had a girls night here last night with some friends so I’ve been clearing up after that. I did most of it last night so it’s pretty much sorted now. I need to do a shopping list for a quick shop to get a few things I need as we are having friends over for lunch tomorrow. We are doing leg of lamb with roast potatoes and some salads so I just need the salad bits. And some cream and meringue as we have lots of berries left from last night so I think I’ll make an Eton Mess.

This afternoon I want to plant some plants into pots on the patio. I have a load of laundry to do and I might also strip a bed.

We are bbq-ing later. DH seems to have taken a mountain of stuff from the freezer. I think it will just be new potatoes and coleslaw to go with it all. With wine and then some tv and an early night.

Judellie · 28/06/2025 11:09

Hi @lucysmam I really love this thread and seeing what everyone's doing.
My husband is away for the day and the teens are still in bed tho I can hear DD moving about.
I woke up early, went to the bathroom, went back to sleep then had awful dreams so should have got up as that always happens.
Anyway, got up, messed about on the internet, entered a couple of competitions, sent tome text messages then emptied the dishwasher.
Had some porridge. Read a bit of my book.
Hoovered the kitchen then mopped the floor. Then started to hoover the sitting room but the hoover has stopped working. Not a power cut so don't know what's wrong, hopefully my husband can sort it. It's a Henry Hoover.
So went in the shower and washed my hair and now sitting drip drying reading Mumsnet.
I will have to get dressed soon.
This afternoon I'm taking DD to work and on the way we're going to check out I can find the house of my friend who's having an afternoon tea party for a few of us for her 60th birthday.
Then I'm going to see my friend for an hour (I think. She hasn't messaged back).
No idea what DS has planned but he likes to go on the metro and to the shops.
Not going out tonight. We do have cinema tickets but nothing on we want to see. Will probably pick DD up from work then watch old episodes of Waterloo Road/Doctor Who and have a foot treatment.
DD has just come downstairs and is making brunch for us so I need ot get dressed and hang some washing out.
Will read the thread later, hope everyone's having a great Saturday!

Kim82 · 28/06/2025 11:14

Good morning everyone. Just me and dd10 are up here. Dh is at work and dd17 hasn’t emerged from her bedroom yet so I’m assuming she’s still asleep.

I’m waiting for my Tesco delivery which is due any minute then me and dd10 will be taking a trip into town to nip into Primark and exchange a bikini we bought for her for our holiday next month, pay a deposit for a bottomless brunch we have booked for dd17’s 18th birthday and we also need to buy dd10 a pair of sandals/strappy shoes. She has her primary school leaver’s party tonight but no shoes to match her outfit.

I’ll probably get lunch out in town then back home to carry on with the absolute mountain of washing I have. Luckily it’s 22 degrees and super windy here today so each load will dry quickly and hopefully I can get it all done today.

I also need to make a start on cleaning the house. It’s been neglected this week as we’ve been busy with work/school/dance/secondary school transition meetings all week so have just done the bare basics all week.

This evening we’re having jacket potatoes with various toppings for tea, dd17’s girlfriend is coming round, dh is off to the pub with his friend and I’m playing taxi for dd10 taking her and her friend to the party then picking them back up around 10.30-11pm ish. I’ll either read or if dd17 and gf is downstairs I’ll watch a film with them whilst waiting to do pick up.

ShipshapeShore · 28/06/2025 11:14

Thank you @AbzMoz for the lovely post, you are absolutely right! I've decided to have a coffee and just chill a bit. Have a great day!

gingercat02 · 28/06/2025 11:18

Very quiet morning here, lie in, breakfast, lots of coffee and Saturday Kitchen.
I was at the races last night, a lot of prosecco was consumed. A late one too as Scam Fender was playing after the last race. Great fun.
I have the first load of washing on, it should dry in no time as it's windy and warm.
Having my mum and her friend for dinner tonight so I need to decide what we are eating and nip to Sainsbury's.
Have to do a quick spruce up of the house as my cleaner is off sick.
DH is off to buy a new paddle board in a closing down sale.
Need to fit F1 qualifying in too at 3pm

AbzMoz · 28/06/2025 11:27

I’m having a do nothing day.

In my case this really means

  • cup of tea and Saturday kitchen
  • feed the tortoise some lettuces and watch him navigate the overgrown grass
  • attempt a crossword or two
  • binge watch a tv series - probably doing a couple of the episodes in the bath
  • maybe try some nail art if I feel like it (I’m not very good at it at all; I just like playing with differnt brushes and stickers)
  • ask DH to pick takeaway for us

tomorrow I’ll deal with life admin, caring for parents, my volunteering and prep for back to work on Monday. But today I’m being entirely selfish.

NamechangeJunebaby · 28/06/2025 11:33

It’s very muggy here (just douth of Manchester). Dog was taken for her usual two hour walk at 6am. Have taken her to a cafe for a doggy ice cream. Off to pick up plants and cleaning supplies from the range and will then go back and strip the bed. It’ll be a slow day, gardening will be tomorrow. Tonight is nachos and wine so I’m looking forward to that! Might binge watch a series if I can find one.

DilemmaDelilah · 28/06/2025 11:42

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I was up and dressed by 9am, then Mr Dilemma and I went to see what our new Aldi is like. The verdict... same as before but with wider aisles and more space! I still managed to spend £30 but it was all stuff we needed, except some snacks for Mr Dilemma that I don't like. My BIG NEWS for this week is that I started Mounjaro for my diabetes on Thursday, so I'm being a bit more careful about what I eat. I've been feeling quite nauseous, but I am told that usually goes away after a few days.

I made some gazpacho when we got home, and I will probably have some of that for lunch, eventually. My friend has warned me against eating peppers, so I'm really hoping that they won't affect me in the same way as they affect her.

I have the pillow I washed yesterday finishing off drying in the tumbler. There wasn't time to finish the drying yesterday as Mr Dilemma put it on an ordinary wash so I had to do it again on a hot wash.

I have no other plans for today... We are having a chicken and vegetable stir fry this evening - we should have had it yesterday, I had everything prepared, but I didn't feel like it. Mr Dilemma wasn't sad - he ended up having scampi which he loves, while I had chicken noodle soup without the noodles.

frozendaisy · 28/06/2025 11:47

Nearly afternoon all
finally got a coffee, washing machine is on, we are not built for high UV levels outdoors so I am putting up tent and having a mini glastonbury in garden overnight for teens - which should keep us occupied for most of the day.
cool shower first
and one later
should be easy, laid back, chaos!
(and making mexican burritos which is great festival food!)

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 28/06/2025 11:53

You're all very disciplined with your meals planned for dinner tonight! Saturday night is the one day we leave blank on the meal planner and usually ends up being a takeaway. However if we don't get one (bloody e pensive for 4 adults!) then we're scuppered as have food in but no meals and I know after afternoon/evening drinks we won't be bothered to cook!

Just had a Belgian Bun & coffee for breakfast. Then off to the Chalke History Festival for our second day of three there. Went yesterday with DD1 and off today with entire family. Our fifth year attending and hoping it will continue to be family trip for years to come.

I would love to know more about this, it sounds great! Are you camping or staying nearby? It is easy to see the talks you want to? It sounds lovely!!

lucysmam · 28/06/2025 12:55

@theriseandfallofFranklinSaint ours wasn't planned until I rummaged in the freezer for last night's tea! I just wrote a list of 14 meals, bought supplies for them, and we pick what we feel like off the list. Normally we'd have had takeaway last night, since it's pay week, but didn't since we're wanting to move by next Saturday.

Updating my first post here - current LL has finally provided a reference. Presuming it's ok as it's green on the EA's online checklist.

Oh that’s good @lucysmam! You must be relieved.

gingercat02 · 28/06/2025 13:11

Good news @lucysmam
How will you manage weekend threads AND move! 🤔🤣

lucysmam · 28/06/2025 13:15

@gingercat02 never fear...I will find a way 🤣. The table where I tend to sit is MASSIVE and heavy as fuck so hopefully no-one will want to move it early on!

Wait for the week after...Trnsmt weekend 🎶 I'll be posting from the stupidly early travel we've booked!

Happy Saturday everyone! I had a lazy morning after being woken to early by the dog. Made a good breakfast eggs, salmon and avocado for me and dp. Binged watched some Netflix together. He has now headed out with friends. I’m waiting for a furniture delivery but I will take the dog on a river walk later I think. I might pop to town as need to prepare for dc birthday. Easy tea of jacket potatoes, fish cakes and salad. Feeling a bit tired might squeeze in a nap!

Popfan · 28/06/2025 14:13

Glad the reference has been sorted @lucysmam !

We have a birthday too so out for tea later and relaxing with cake back at our lodge.
