Dyson blade less tower fans

Are they so much better than a fan with blades ?
Thinking of getting one, or similar but different make, for sons room.
He's not bothered by the sound of a normal fan and indeed seems to like the white noise.
So if silence is main factor it might not be worth paying extra.
Anyone any experienced?

They are awful don't bother! We have one! Highly recommend the Meaco fans though!

Thisbastardcomputer · 28/06/2025 07:28

I’m on my second one, the first was stolen when we moved house. They are worth every penny but get a hot and cold one, QVC is a good place to buy from, when they promote them, there’s a good discount and they offer paying over four months.

Misspotterer · 28/06/2025 07:31

We have them at work. I have an old school blade fan at home and think it's more effective than the dysons. Not worth it imo. My blade fan cost me £30 a few years ago.

Stayed in a house sit and used one there. Apart from being quiet and the fact that it's got a heater function as well as a fan, no advantage really.
Bought a cheap £21 standing oscillating fan in Wickes the other day, not noisy above a small, pleasant hum, especially on the lowest setting which is fine for overnight for instance.
Honestly save your money.

NormalAuntFanny · 28/06/2025 07:53

They're not very good, we had two different models in an Airbnb recently and they were really nothing special at all once you'd enjoyed the design.

We have duux ones which are pretty good and you can control them from your phone.

Plus of course Dyson himself was a vocal brexiter who then offshored all his UK jobs. You're paying made in the west prices for something made in Malaysia.

Ah ha ! Thank you Mumsnetters, thank goodness I asked before buying.
That muji one looks interesting @Aprilrainagainagain .
@urghhh47 mm I think I've seen Meaco recommended on similar threads .

I looked at lots of reviews before getting a fan for the bedroom. I ended up buying a Meaco fan, no regrets, it’s so quiet it’s unreal. We love it.

NoelFaraday · 28/06/2025 10:04

Bought and returned.

Floor and desk fan bought from Argos looks better and are more efficient at cooling a room.

fruitbrewhaha · 28/06/2025 10:07

We have one. I do prefer it because it’s so quiet but it’s not silent and we do have to service it every once in a while or it gets a noise of some sort. This just involves unscrewing it and blowing out any dust. It’s a nice waft of air rather than blowing on you so does feel good in the room. I didn’t buy it though we got it for free so I’m not sure if it’s worth the massive price differential.

PearlsPearl · 28/06/2025 10:21

I'm a Dyson lover but wish I'd never wasted my money on the fan!

caramac04 · 28/06/2025 10:24

We recently bought a ‘Dyson knock off’ from Lidl. Really pleased with it. £55 with Lidl app.
I’m not giving Dyson the Brexiteer any of my money.

MissyB1 · 28/06/2025 10:26

Ive been very tempted to get a dyson ine because of the heater function and the air purifier. But do have issues buying Dyson because of the Brexit thing and I've never thought much more f their vacuums!

GenerousGardener · 28/06/2025 10:37

I’ve got one, I love mine. It takes up so little room and does the job nicely.

LuckysDadsHat · 28/06/2025 10:45

Get one of the shark lift off fans instead. They are great.

caramac04 · 28/06/2025 11:25

I’ve actually just taken delivery of a portable air con unit. It needs to stand for 6 hours before use so I can’t report yet how good it is. At £229 it’s cheaper than a Dyson fan.
I have bought it for my caravan because I have dogs and it gets too hot in a tin box for them.
However, it is very heavy and I’m thinking I might have to buy another and have it delivered to the caravan.

MsWhippy10 · 28/06/2025 12:16

We have one of the Shark lift-offs as mentioned above. Absolutely fantastic. Cordless, remote control, silent on low. Wouldn’t be without it now. Currently laid with it next to me.

Chewbecca · 28/06/2025 12:19

Expensive and shite IME.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 28/06/2025 12:21

I couldn't get excited about any fan with a heater function. It doesn't matter how much you spend, you don't get any more heat for your money, and plug-in heaters are always expensive to run.

allamberedover · 28/06/2025 12:48

@caramac04 ( i used to love a caramac! ) I know air conditioning is a whole new topic but what did you buy ?

This was recommended by other caravan owners so fingers crossed it works for me. Currently on offer (I might just be a mug who falls for ‘offers’ 😂
