If you had 2 weeks home alone, what would you do?

DH and DS are going off on a father-and-son trip together tomorrow, so I will be home alone. I've been so busy with work recently that I've planned nothing. What would you do if you had the house to yourself for a couple of weeks?

Ha, this is so opatune, my only kid still at home gone away today for 2 weeks! Just me,dog and cat. Cleaned and tidied, lots of washing done so I can just please myself now. Watched Netflix took dog on long walk, early to bed 😊. Hope you enjoy your time as much as I intend to OP💕

It would depend on the weather…if sunny, I’d do lots of gardening, and then sit outside some more with a good book. Also, I’d try to get on with the writing of my novel!
If not so good, I’d still go out for lovely walks in the nearby hills, then do some reading and writing indoors.
I would eat and drink exactly what I like, and relish not having to shop/cook for the family.
I probably would feel a bit like I’d have to do SOME housework. But I’d limit that to an hour or so in the mornings, with a strict finish time, then do what the hell I like the rest of the time.
I don’t think I’d feel the need to see ANYONE!

Get the place really tidy and uncluttered quickly and then breathe in the peace.
For days I was working, plan in a decent dog walk each day in vast time saved from school runs etc. Arrange a few dinners with friends out or them
coming to mine and me cooking and chatting and eating adult food with them. Maybe go and see a national theatre live broadcast in an evening.

Non working days if I could get AL or the weekends: One major gardening blitz day to get the garden tidy and happy and then sit and look at it and breathe in the satisfaction.
Drive to friends who live a couple of hours away and stay with them or have women friends come and stay without partners and kids.
Lots of sleeping, reading, eating spicy vegetarian food especially Thai.
basically be in heaven.

Finish painting the fence and garden furniture.

Touch up paint around the house.

Declutter wardrobes.

Walk a lot.

Sleep a lot.

Go shopping with my mum.

Miss my boys after a day!

I am very jealous indeed.

I wouid clean and tidy like crazy on day 1, and then enjoy the house being clean and tidy with only minimal top up cleans.

I would then have 2 weeks or reading, gardening and watching Wimbledon.

bigbum7 · 27/06/2025 22:48

Spend week 1 decluttering each room in the house. Spend the 2nd week catching up with friends and doing things that fill my cup.

pizzaHeart · 27/06/2025 22:49

Sleep, eat what I want, doing exercises, taking long showers, sorting things.
2 weeks!!!! ohhh I’m so jealous @thriven

jaggededger · 27/06/2025 22:49

Repaint some rooms, go on walks and out to dinner with friends, cook and eat my favourite meals that he doesn’t like, sort some cupboards out. Nothing very exciting 😂

Despairinglysad · 27/06/2025 22:50

although I’d like to so lots of clearing out stuff and redecorating etc I think I’d just chill out and recharge my batteries or do something not too big a job. Meet friends, spa day etc. enjoy.

ZenNudist · 27/06/2025 22:52

Swim
Run
Eat salad and ready meals (usually cook from scratch)

ZenNudist · 27/06/2025 22:53

Meals drinks and walking with friends in the week

KirriIrry · 27/06/2025 22:55

I’d make a beautifully neat list of all the jobs that need doing that i never quite get round to……. and then I’d sit around drinking coffee and reading books and promising myself that I’d start tomorrow.
At the end of the 2 weeks I’d be really cross and disappointed with myself for wasting all that time not getting anything useful done.

SeanMaguire · 27/06/2025 22:55

Wimbledon and Deliveroo. Bed at 9 every night.

ThePoliteLion · 27/06/2025 23:00

I’d be so thrilled and take a holiday from work too. First thing, walk dog. Then coffee on patio. Next, decluttering, cleaning, decorating, gardening. But only for four hours max. The rest of the day I’d spend under a tree reading a book. Bed all to myself, more reading. I’d eat deli style food. Heaven

TrobadoraBeatrice · 27/06/2025 23:02

Bliss! First I'd clear all the toys and crap off all the surfaces downstairs into tubs so I didn't have to look at it for a week or so, then I'd sort out the back yard, and then sit in it in the sun. I'd go to as many yoga classes as I could sign up for, maybe take up salsa dancing again, or do an art class. Oh, and buy plants while there's no-one to stop me.

Strokethefurrywall · 27/06/2025 23:06

Read, go to the gym, create a list of movies I want to watch/rewatch, take pleasure in only having to cook for myself, hang with friends.

merryhouse · 27/06/2025 23:10

stop eating proper meals in favour of mashed potato with cheese, crisps, sweets, pork pie and the occasional carrot

start decluttering in half a dozen different places, and then have to put it all back haphazardly on day 13

play CDs all day

plan to get back into exercise and practice; but in reality only get off the internet if I happen to allow my eyes to fall on a book during the decluttering process

Curlygirl06 · 27/06/2025 23:15

My dh goes away for work quite often, some weeks not at all, sometimes overseas for a few weeks, some weeks a day or so, it depends.
I arrange to see friends in the evening, read books, sort shit out, eat like a student, it's great! Me and the toaster are best friends during that time, plus for a bit of variety I eat pot noodles. (Dh does most of the cooking and he's a fab cook) I go to bed early, watch tv until late, get up late (no kids at home) unless the grandchildren are staying over.
I miss him when he's away but equally I'm quite happy to be on my own.
