Got the tin foil out, but not to make a hat. Best hot weather hacks

It's going to be over 30 degrees on Monday/Tuesday and I am not looking forward to it.

When it's going to be hot like that we tape cheap tin foil (shiny side facing out) to the outside of our windows. It reflects the sun away from the house keeping the temperature inside more bearable.

What is your best hack to beat the heat?

I'll be walking to work, to avoid hot public transport, but I'll keep crossing & changing my route to stay in the shade. I'll close the office blinds before leaving on Friday & will take a thermos flask of ice cubes to add to drinks. Cooling sprays are good, but also running my hands and forearms under the cold tap provides relief from the heat. Wearing linen or loose cotton helps me cope too.

Loose clothing, linen preferably and cotton as a second-best. Not going outside if I can help it as I have a heart condition that means I don't tolerate heat well.

Lots of fluids. Lots of pacing myself, which means a little bit of activity and then sitting down.

Meaco fans indoors (they are bloody brilliant and the next best thing to air-conditioning in my opinion).

If your hair is long enough, pin it up! Claw clips are everywhere at the moment.

Yes to putting hair up. Every summer I feel the urge to get a pixie cut or something equally as drastic. I always compromise by clipping it up in a bun.

Cold damp flannel on the back of your neck. Iced water in a bowl to put the flannel in.Cold water on your wrists. Loose clothing preferably in natural fibres

If you are driving and wearing a skirt, keep a face cloth or something similar to shove up between your legs. So much more comfortable.

For those hot nights when you can't sleep, take a cool shower and wrap yourself still wet in a sheet. Then sleep in the damp sheet.
