Is it ok to remove 3 wisdom teeth an leave 1?

Will I end up lopsided?
I had lower 2 teeth out a year ago as impacted. Then dentist recommended the top left out as starting to decay. I had this out a few weeks ago. But it was so painful. Dentist suggested going back and getting the remaining wisdom tooth out.
but this one is perfectly healthy!
is it worth getting out not to be lopsided, or can I leave it?
thanks for any advice

I've never had upper wisdom teeth, but I do have lower ones. I had one of them removed nearly 30 years ago as it was impacted. The other one has never caused any trouble so it's still there. All fine, not lopsided.

Why did the dentist recommend getting it removed? Seems odd if it’s perfectly healthy! I’ve had one removed, the other three don’t cause problems so the dentist hasn’t recommended having them removed.

Had 3 removed in my 20s, the 4th remained until my 40s when it got infected. No odd jaw issues.

Thank you this is all very reassuring. Originally I’d agreed to both teeth out as that’s what I thought happened (they were removed in pairs) and dentist seemed to assume that too and said to take out both even though only 1 side decayed. But on the day the surgeon offered 1 at a time so I went with just one side out initially. I am now thinking I won’t go back

See how it goes but I had a similar situation as the top ones do tend to carrying on growing down if the bottom is not there to stop it as obviously there is lots of space. This might be a myth! Maybe a dentist could confirm but I am pretty sure that was the reason that I was told it is better to have them both out at the same time. Also in my experience some come out really easily whilst my last one would of put me off having any taken out for life so it is a bit of luck unfortunately.

I don’t have any. I had two of them taken out at the same time, the other two had already been removed in two separate ops. You’ll be fine!

I have one, had one removed as it had an exposed nerve and was born without the other two. I suppose I'm lopsided but no one but my dentist sees that.

MotherofPearl · 27/06/2025 07:29

I’ve had 3/4 out and so have had only one wisdom tooth for about 20 years. No issues at all.

I had two wisdom teeth that kept getting infected as they was growing outwards and I also kept biting the inside of my mouth, was so painful and had so many sores inside my mouth because of it the other two were perfectly fine but I told the dentist I want all 4 out.

I had all 4 out and don’t regret it because I knew as soon as the 2 problem ones were gone the others would start he was shocked I wanted them all out but I thought fuck it get rid of all four.
