Extreme period pain no period

Purplerainpurplesky · 25/06/2025 22:30

For over 5 days I have had the most extreme period type pain in my back sides and belly.
Feels almost like contractions, constant for 5 days, no period or sign of period.
It is so bad paracetamol and hot water bottles aren't even touching the sides.
I have had irregular periods for over 6 years but never this sort of debilitating pain.
Should I go to the GP or is it a waste of time with period type pain?

How old are you, OP? I’d phone 111.

And I’m assuming there’s no possibility you could be pregnant,

Purplerainpurplesky · 25/06/2025 22:32

I'm 31 I never thought of 111

Could you be pregnant?

Go to the gp!

That you don't actually have a period is strange. Is there any chance you're pregnant? Could be an ectopic pregnancy?

Or an ovarian cyst bursting.

Or really bad endometriosis.

A gp or, better, a gyne would hopefully be able to help.

Purplerainpurplesky · 25/06/2025 22:35

I've been trying for a child for 5 years but took a test last week and it was negative so not pregnant.

I will call the GP in the morning

Thatsalineallright · 25/06/2025 22:43

And yeah, call 111.

Hope you feel better soon!

Sayithowiseeit · 25/06/2025 23:39

I get this! Not every month but most. Its horrific, ive had investigations and its been put down to a different condition I have. It can last minutes but also on and off for months. At times it is agony just with the movement of breathing. And ive been hospitalised many times.

Im on day 3 of it and its horrendous. I sympathise

bythefireplace · 26/06/2025 00:00

Could be endometriosis and yes I would see someone
i would have flares of extreme pain when not on my period to the point of needing morphine, just rolling waves of cramps

IkeaMeatballGravy · 26/06/2025 00:04

I would test again OP. I had exactly this when I was pregnant with DS1, I did end up being admitted to hospital as they thought I was having an ectopic but luckily he was in the right place. The pain subsided after a couple of weeks.

Purplerainpurplesky · 26/06/2025 11:58

I've got a GP appointment this afternoon so hopefully they take it seriously.

I had this when pregnant. I thought I was about to have the mother of all periods. It was very early on (about a week before my period was due) if I remember correctly.

Can you take a early detection test?

3luckystars · 26/06/2025 14:16

If you are past the early stages of pregnancy, sometimes it doesn’t show on an early test. I have not seen this, only read about it, it’s called the hook effect. If there is a chance you are pregnant then I hope you will be ok and they refer you for a scan. All the best.

Purplerainpurplesky · 26/06/2025 15:01

Prescribed codeine and pretty much told its endometriosis and to deal with it no urine test, no stomach test, given codeine and told if it gets worse go to A&E. So hopefully the codeine helps

I'm so sorry about your ttc story OP. I hope you feel better soon

3luckystars · 26/06/2025 15:09

I don’t know how they can diagnose endometriosis by vision with no examination?

or do you have it already?

That’s very slack to not even do a pregnancy test or dip urine.

Thatsalineallright · 26/06/2025 15:14

I'd go to a different doctor if I were you. Unfortunately, even if it is endometriosis it's been shown that patients have to try multiple GPs before finding one that will actually help them

NameChangedOfc · 26/06/2025 15:26

I have endometriosis. They have to, at least, do a scan to examine you. And even then, they can't diagnose you most of the time.
Your severe pain could be a bursting cyst: please, seek a second opinion. I'm furious on your behalf for the way they have dismissed you. If you can, go private.

Nachoinseachthu · 26/06/2025 16:34

Maybe go straight to A&E and say it’s got worse. 5 days is too long. Codeine might just mask the ailment.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/06/2025 16:36

I would want an ultrasound to rule out a twisted ovary / ovarian cyst. Your gp must have magic eyeballs if they can diagnose without a scan !

socks1107 · 26/06/2025 16:52

I had this and it was adenomyosis. Ask for a second opinion and push for a diagnosis and support

its probably because she had a negative pregnancy test already, but yes I do agree I think a referral to gynae is on the cards.

Purplerainpurplesky · 29/06/2025 00:06

I since developed earache, blister on my lower leg and pain in my chest when deep breathing. Still got abdomen pain, went to out of hours gp as directed by 111 to be told to go back to my GP as all my aliments weren't linked and I need to go back. My poor body is in so much pain. I don't know where to turn from here.

OP posts:
Thatsalineallright · 29/06/2025 08:07

I'm so sorry, OP, that sounds horrendous. I'm not in the UK so not sure of the system - could you go to A +E? Or if you've got the extra cash could you go private?

Imo you at least need an abdominal scan of some sort. I know you must be exhausted, but I think you'll have to be loud and insistent and advocate for yourself to ensure you get the care you need. Or do you have family nearby that can help advocate on your behalf?

The other ailments might not be fully linked, but extreme pain lowers the immune system. Or maybe you're fighting some sort of wide scale infection?

Obviously as a random poster on Mumsnet, I don't know what's going on. But your doctors can't know either unless they actually check to rule out specific issues. They can't just take one look at you and diagnose endometriosis! I'm raging on your behalf, OP.

Thatsalineallright · 29/06/2025 08:11

The more I think on it, the more I'd just go straight to a+e in your shoes. It could be something really scary like sepsis.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/06/2025 08:22

Any chest pain should be checked out so for that alone you should go to A and E
