Staycation - Yorkshire

Hi all, looking to book a staycation this summer as a single parent to a 7 year old. Looking possibly east coast of Yorkshire. Not sure if I should go with a caravan holiday (never done one of these) or airbnb or something else?? I'd like something quite peaceful as we live quite busy lives, but also things to do close by. Will probably spend most of the time at the beach. We are vegan so hoping to find somewhere with some restaurant's/pubs around. LO loves swimming (pool, beach) and picnics. We like Bridlington (my daughter is most interested in the rides and arcades which is super fun sometimes but also want to embrace the nature around too) so also looking for new places to explore!

Any suggestions would be great!

Bridlington has a vegan cafe. At Scarborough there are a few chain restaurants with vegan options, such as Ask.

Predictably there are always the posters who like to ‘correct’ OP about it not being a staycation. It must make them feel them feel superior, even though they’re the ones in the wrong!!

You’ll find food a challenge in Scarborough and Whitby. They can’t cope with vegetarians, never mind vegans. Everything is fried in beef dripping and you can smell it everywhere.

I usually end up with a sandwich from the supermarket.

WTAF? I have to respond to that ridiculous statement. You can get vegetarian food in Yorkshire and it doesn’t smell of beef dripping everywhere!

I know you have been talking about the beach, but I think this would suit your needs and budget

The east coast in the summer holidays will be busy and more expensive.

The kitchen is vegetarian, loads of catering in HB for vegans and lots to do for yourself and a 7 year old. Halifax offers you The Piece Hall and Eureka. Bradford has a lot of free events because it won the Capital of Culture this year.

You can get great vegetarian food in Yorkshire. Some is truly outstanding. Some Michelin starred.

You can get sod all in the centre of Whitby and Scarborough without going for a sandwich.

Last time I was there (9 months ago) a restaurant had “vegetarian lunch” option of vegetable lasagna and chips. Beef dripping chips. I checked.

I know everyone goes on about Whitby but it is heaving in the summer season and no fun at all, much like York. Small children love Bridlington, much more chilled and there’s been a vegan cafe there for years. The old town is lovely, sewerby hall and gardens, John Bull rock.

This was my concern with Whitby, ive heard its lovely but gets super busy! We have been to bridlington and like it there, just looking for somewhere new to explore and will probably go for a day trip to Brid
