So sick of these tonsil stones.

Has anyone found a successful way of getting rid of tonsil stones?

They are disgusting and so unpleasant for me and anyone near me who has to suffer my terrible bad breath.
They are making me so self conscious about getting too close to people.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 7 but this is no guarantee of not getting them.
I attend my dentist regularly and keep my teeth and mouth as clean as possible, gargle but nothing works.

I went to see my GP about any treatment available but they said there wasn't much could be done about them.

I'm a snorer, which sometimes loosens them and I can wash them out until the next time.

Please, has anyone who also suffers any advice for getting rid of them.

I'm sure I read something about laser treatment that can smooth out the tissue so they don't collect any more?

Gargling with TCP helps the smell a bit but also tastes rank.
A good cough sometimes dislodges the smaller ones for me. I know some people poke tonsils with cotton buds to squeeze them out but that hasn't worked for me.
I bought a blackhead/spot removing kit yonks ago. One of the tools looks like a teeny tiny ice cream scoop. Last couple of times I've managed to hoik some stones out with that.

No idea how to stop them appearing though, fortunately I don't get them often enough to worry about that.

It's scar tissue left by the tonsillectomy..where the stones gather.. you can have the scar tissue removed.... so there is something that can be done.

Oh OP that sounds awful. Maybe go back to GP for scar tissue revision as PPs have said. I had hideous and persistent tonsil stones until I had my tonsils removed at 15. Never had one since (45)

Gargling at least twice a day with strong salty water.

Thank you everyone for your helpful replies.

It's been 50 years since I had my tonsils removed.

Admittedly, it was a few years ago that I spoke to my GP so I think another visit is needed to discuss the new treatments available, although I suspect it will most likely need to be done privately but I'm willing to give it a try.

OP my friends tonsils grew back after she had them removed as a child because the surgeon left tissue in. She had to have them removed again as an adult.

I struggle with these too in fits and starts. Can't ever see them to remove manually though.

I've also not had my tonsils out though did used to suffer with tonsillitis.

I've got a water flosser that I use to wash out the holes where they form which works quite well.

I also try to use corsodyl mouthwash when it feels like I've had quite a lot lately. When I was a student, I was semi obsessed with having them and hated them, and would never have believed I'd have got used to it and have them more or less under control now (though they're still there usually when I used the flosser thing).
