Boy dog getting desexed tomorrow

Hello posting here for traffic. 1 year old doodle getting the snip tomorrow 😢

I know the vet will provide post op instructions and of course he will need to take it easy for a few days, but any advice from the wise?

Husband WFH permanently and we already have a comfy blow up donut cone (which also has the plastic cone you zip on to that) to keep him away from his stitches.

Our BC was done in February, our vet’s instructions were short trips for toilet only for 2-3 days, then on lead exercise only until his check up 10 days post op (that went down well - (not) with a young BC). Keep an eye on the op site for redness or other signs of infection. The scrotal sac was filled with fluid but the vet nurse said that wasn’t unusual (she did describe him as having been very well endowed….). He was pretty well back to normal within those 10 days and it’s certainly helped his behaviour around other dogs, more interested in ball chasing now

My little boy is just a joy around other dogs, I really hope he doesn’t loose his personality 🫣

If you’re worried you could try the implant first. It’s not permanent.

Millions of dogs are neutered every year and the advantages are better health outcomes and reduced numbers of unwanted litters.

I always have my boy dogs done - never had a problem.

Our boy hasn’t, he just doesn’t pester every lady dog he meets now! He’s still a typical playful OCD Border Collie

I have never used a cone on a dog or a doughnut. Only one dog was inquisitive out of man and had to wear a cotton jumpsuit but all our others have just been distracted from venturing near their nether regions.

Frozwn treats, lick mats, Kongs etc and a firm no!

He had a surgery when a baby (4.5months) - horrid dog bit him on snout / jaw - so we already have the donut cone from then. He loved it I think it was quite comfy ha! He would get it off to get his food and then back on no problems. Looked a right idiot though!

I would think the vet will probably send him home in a surgical suit (they certainly do with spayed bitches now), and these are so much nicer for the dogs, so don't be too wedded to your cone.

De-sexed? What a quaint euphemism 😉. I say neutralised or castrated. I believe neuter surgery is the preferred American term!

PS. I guess it's a vasectomy rather than full chop.
