If you suffered pelvic girdle pain in pregnancy, how did you reduce/ stop it?

I had it alllllllll the way through with DS1. Am now pregnant with DS2 and initially thought i'd escaped it, but now i'm in the second trimester, it's started up with a vengeance. Arghhhh!

So any help you can give me will be very much appreciated. The midwives last time were very dismissive of it but it almost stopped me walking beyond my garden after six months last time.

What worked for you?

Support band and pelvic floor exercises

Pilates, physio, support band… good luck!

There are specific services for this. I only know of one in London but I will post a link in case knowing the name of the service is useful.

Support belt
Osteopath (make sure pregnancy qualified)
Crutches
Pillow between the knees when you sleep
Get out of bed by rolling on side, dropping both legs over the side (knees together) and then sitting up
Plastic bag on car seat so you can keep knees together, spin round in seat (knees together) then stand
Spend time in water to lift weight off hips

Unfortunately it was just a case of managing and minimising the pain until baby was born. Once baby was delivered, I had no problem walking at all.

Mine lasted for 2 years after DS was born. I was referred to physio but couldn't attend because it was in working hours and I had no one to look after DS - everyone who could was at work! It disappeared on its own eventually.

Pillow between my knees when sleeping and walking as little as possible. Went on sick leave before my maternity leave started.

Unfortunately compensating for it with my back muscles caused long term problems which required 2 years of physiotherapy to heal.

Mine lingered after for about 2 years as well and I did pilates which greatly improved things. Still have a bad him cough 12 years on...
