Do you judge people’s choice of books, music preference or tv show?

Lighthearted thread. Music, books and film/tv shows are all personal preferences. Would you judge someone if you thought the music they listened was in your view shit? When I say judge someone, I don’t mean as a person but they might just have shit taste. For example I can’t stand Taylor Swift and none of my friends bar one like her too. Shows like the Kardashian’s, I feel are just trash. Books from Colleen Hoover, worst few hours of my life reading that rubbish. It could even extend to food and drink. Example Matcha lattes… anyone that drinks these are a basic bitch in my opinion. Caviar- wannabe rich people food, it’s literally fish eggs, harvested in a very inhumane way.

Anyone else feel similar and like to share?

Yes, but I don't hate them or think they're bad people or anything. I do judge their taste though. That's totally natural I think.

Two of my closest friends have the worst taste in music (to me and to anyone else with ears 😂 JK). I am told my music is very depressing and therefore rubbish. I don't mind that at all. You can't be too defensive about little things like your taste in music or tv or whatever. If someone judges it and thinks it's crap, so what? You probably think theirs is crap or boring anyway

I don’t judge because I’m not a snobby twat.

Cososom · 25/06/2025 17:23

I judge people who don't like Taylor Swift.

It's an extremely limited and unimaginative opinion. I should know, I used to hold it.

I must admit I do find it very odd when I visit someone else's house and discover that they have no books. None whatsoever.

Musical preferences - I like a wide variety, so each to their own on that one. If they are an obsessive fan of Eric Clapton though... meh. He is well over-rated.

As for tv programmes, I can't say I would have anything in common with the sort of person who watches Big Brother or Love Island etc. Or Question Time either, come to that. Can't abide political chit-chat.

What is “the sort of person” who watches Love Island or BB though? I know lots of people who watch or have watched and they aren’t all the same! Many of them have very varied interests so how do you know you wouldn’t have other things in common?

I don't judge people on their tastes and would never call anything "shit". It's just dismissive and rude.

I either like a person's character or I don't.

Strangely, you sound ‘not very bright’ yourself with that comment.

I’m bright enough to not want to watch vacuous rubbish…

Any Marvel film apart from Blade- lots of money, not very good acting.

Beyoncé - went to see in concert, but overrated

50 shades of grey/twilight - crap, where do I even start?

Games of thrones - didn’t understand the hype

True Detective - amazing

Downton Abbey - boring

I judge anyone who doesn't like Game of Thrones. Grin

Not really, we are all individuals.

I'm not

TY78910 · 25/06/2025 22:41

The only people I ‘judge’ or let’s say find odd are full grown adults (we’re talking 30+) that are obsessed with something like Disney or Hello Kitty or Harry Potter (things typically associated with children). And by obsessed I mean it’s become their personality - from clothing, to accessories, phone covers, duvets, crockery obsessed. I wouldn’t judge for really liking those things, as far as entertainment goes they are good quality things to watch / consume, but I do wonder why adults would want to literally climb inside a children’s character.

insomniaclife · 25/06/2025 23:39

Fuck yeah I judge

I don't think I would see eye-to-eye with anybody who enjoyed watching that tripe.
