Tenby alternatives?

I posted this in UK travel, but immediatley realised I'd probably get more responses here. Can anyone recommend seaside towns that have a similar 'vibe' to Tenby for a short break for me and my Partner please? We have already been to Salcombe, Lyme Regis and St Ives so would like to try somewhere different. I'm looking at Brixham - am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks.

Whitby is the usual recommendation and much loved on MN, although personally I'm not a fan. Loved Robin Hood's Bay though.

@throwawaynametoday thanks - I went to Whitby with school years ago and thought it had a really gloomy feeling. Maybe all the Dracula connections clouded my juvenile judgement!

Beaumaris on Anglesey is like going back 25 years, in a good way.

AdaColeman · 24/06/2025 13:04

Sheringham Norfolk
Tynemouth Northumberland
Conway/Conwy North Wales
Harlech Mid Wales
Whitstable Kent
Oban Argyll & Bute Scotland

I agree with Beaumaris, it's lovely!

Or Shanklin on the Isle of Wight?

Neutralcat · 24/06/2025 13:08

I'll definitely take a look at Beaumaris 😊.

Edited

It's gloomy out of season and on a wet day but it's glorious in the sunshine. A beautiful place.

New Quay Wales and that whole coastline is gorgeous.

FloraBotticelli · 24/06/2025 13:19

Southwold in Suffolk

Yes, we stayed in Aberaeron which is tiny but gorgeous (look up the Harbourmaster Hotel, we air bnb'd but this looked good) and spent a couple of days down the coast in New Quay which is also pretty and has a lovely sandy cove beach with dolphins.

ginasevern · 24/06/2025 13:28

Dartmouth in Devon is lovely.

AdaColeman · 24/06/2025 13:40

Oh, how could I forget to mention Southwold!

stargirl1701 · 24/06/2025 13:42

Elie or Crail?

Neutralcat · 24/06/2025 13:50

@ginasevern Yes, Dartmouth is on my radar. I've visited briefly but don't think my Partner has. It is lovely; Kingswear across the water looks nice too. @AdaColeman have Googled Southwold, but something puts me off. Maybe the flatness? We like a rugged coastal walk and not sure if we would get our fix in that area?

Thank you for all the suggestions.

Hunstanton in Norfolk?

RavenT · 26/06/2025 08:08

Wells next the Sea, north Norfolk.

Phunkychicken · 26/06/2025 08:09

Broadstairs Kent

FloraBotticelli · 29/06/2025 20:24

Yep you definitely wouldn’t get a rugged coastal walk fix in Southwold area! RSPB Minsmere is nearby but it’s very flat and open marshes in that part of the world.

I believe the North Norfolk coastal path stretches for miles so could be an option if you’re looking for beautiful walks. Not rugged like Devon/Cornwall, but cliff paths, sandy dunes, shingle beaches etc. Cromer to Sheringham is very walkable and you can get the train too.
