Think I've made a big mistake...

My DH and I have 2DC under 2. We haven't been on holiday in years. We found a fantastic last minute deal for an AI. We are so excited and are flying tomorrow. However, I've just checked the forecast and the temperature is consistently late 30s, with a day or two at 41!

My little one is 8 months and I'm slightly worried about her. I've already planned to stay in the shade and to nip back to the room to cool in the air-con. We'll put them down to nap over the hottest part of the day and grab lunch inside where it's cool. I've bought fans for them and uv shades. We'll keep giving them nice cold water and getting them in the pool.

I know that millions and millions of babies live in hot counties. My DH and I are ethnically middle Eastern and Asian respectively (although I am part Scandinavian and our littlest is quite fair).

Just after reassurance that we've not made a terrible mistake... No backing out now 😂

Any experiences and tips of taking two little ones to a baking hot country in the summer months?

I think you’ll be okay - plenty of aircon, water and shade will be available.
is there an indoor pool you can use to have a break from the sun?
also, wouldn’t your little ones be napping at peak heat midday?

There is an indoor pool, yes! Which will absolutely be our back-up if we cannot hack it.

I've checked and the peak is from about 2-5. So my plan is to get a late lunch inside the cool restaurant and then put them both down for a late nap.

Honestly it will be fine. AI doesn't mean you have to sit outside by a pool all day. There will be naps in your room whilst you guys chill, possibly club activities the kids can do inside, are there options to go out locally to visit indoors places? Or trips on airconned travel?

Plenty of sun lotion, hats, fans, water and common sense and you'll be ok

Be outside early and in the evening. Plan to be inside with aircon in the middle of the day.
Use hats, sunscreen, umbrellas, big cover up cotton tops and drink water often.

The resort is quite far away from anything so I don't think day trips are going to be on the cards. We had visions of DC1 spending the day running around the very vast resort and playing in the pool all day. They also have a beach and playground. Hopefully these places are well shaded.

Lots of spf50 and breaks inside seem to be our best bet I think!

We did Australia last year in February with a toddler and will be doing it again next year with a baby too... we just times naps for the worst heat of the day...in fact we all had naps, and then enjoyed the evenings when it was a bit less roasting! sp50 suits and all was fine!
