Mortified - I fell on the way to get the bus this morning

Running for the bus to work, got to the bus and either I tripped or fainted - ended up on the ground between the bus and pavement.

The driver got out to help me, passenger was stifling a laugh but also helped. I’ve cut my knee and my thumb, have a thumping headache, sore all over and too bloody hot. I’ve had a migraine for 2 days now.

I work in healthcare so I’ll ask one of the nurses to dress my knee, it’s stopped bleeding and there’s nothing in it but I’m absolutely mortified. I’m dyspraxic, I used to do this all the time as a kid but never as an adult, I’m 33! I’m wearing a dress and control pants as well which doesn’t help, I’m sure everyone got a flash of them!

Everyone trips and falls at some point. You are not seriously hurt OP that is the main thing. Brush it off. It was one of those things!

ExtensivelyDecorating · 24/06/2025 07:29

Oh, it’s embarrassing isn’t it, I had a fall a few years ago because I was looking at my phone and tripped over a kerb, I literally went flying into a hedge. You could see the dent in the hedge for weeks afterwards. I felt so silly even though I don’t think anyone saw me (it was dark). But now if I walk past that hedge with anyone else (it’s on the corner of a car park) I tell them and we laugh. I’m glad you weren’t more badly hurt.

whynotmereally · 24/06/2025 07:30

Yesterday dh was at the gym and was adjusting the weights on a bar he took too much off one side so it fell and nearly hit another bloke. Every person in the gym was looking.

it is awful but you are just a fleeting memory to those people. Hope you are ok

I think falling as an adult can be a deeply upsettling experience even aside from any injuries. It always makes me feel very tearful for some reason. Hope your day improves 💐

1000DayChallenge · 24/06/2025 07:32

You poor thing. Don’t be hard on yourself, it happens to everyone. My daughter fell at work the other day, no idea how. I think she might have fainted or lost consciousness or something because she was carried through the entire garden centre from the restaurant, and has no idea who carried her. She’s covered in huge bruises

You’ve had a nasty shock and hurt yourself, but you’ll be ok. Take care, and be extra nice to yourself today

Mumof1andacat · 24/06/2025 07:35

You don't sound well. Is going to work a good idea?

isitmeamithedrama · 24/06/2025 07:35

I fell walking home after Christmas one night smashed my face off the pavement (wasn’t drunk I’d only had 2 glasses of wine) exh picked me up and we walked home I thought id survived relatively unscathed but in actual fact I had a cracked cheekbone and massive grazes to one side of my face. It happened right at a bus stop and the night bus was loaded with drunk folk who were laughing.
miraculously the grazing was gone after a week but I still feel hot with shame when I think about it.
I hope your migraine goes away and you’re not too sore. Try and take it easy, which might not be an easy task if you’re working

ididmybest · 24/06/2025 07:38

Thanks 🩷🩷 yes horrible shock and yes initially a bit tearful. I’m holding my knee with a baby wipe as it’s still bleeding a bit, hopefully nurse at work can whack a meopore on it. The driver was lovely at least, didn’t laugh thank God! I’m more worried that work will, I’m having a bloody weird week - a bird flew in my office window yesterday and now this haha.

Ouch poor you. You won't see those people again and I'm sure they'll forget about it by the end of the day!

ididmybest · 24/06/2025 07:40

My dress is buggered as well, it’s bloody pink and white with a lovely stain on the side now - something black, guessing oil off the bus

You poor thing. Take care of yourself - it happens loads and zero need to feel embarrassed.

People who find it funny when people fall over and potentially hurt themselves have something wrong with them.

Somanyquestionsss · 24/06/2025 08:41

I fell over at work once. It was in a supermarket at Christmas so very busy and I was scurrying around and I just slipped and landed on my bum in front of so many people. I was ok but it was truly mortifying.

Kuretake · 24/06/2025 08:45

Its so crap isn't it? I find falling makes me feel weirdly ashamed and tearful - it's so irrational. I used to fall a lot and have made a big effort to improve core strength and balance. It has really helped me, some strength training and pilates.

BestIsWest · 24/06/2025 12:27

Hope you’re ok. Take it from someone who fell over in every office I ever worked in, in the middle of Lisbon, Toronto, and who once threw herself headlong down St Mary’s street in Cardiff no one else will remember. Hope you’re ok.

CharlotteFlax · 24/06/2025 12:32

If you're not sure if you tripped or fainted then you really should err on the side of caution and get checked out as if it was a faint. At least ask your nurse colleague to do your obs as well!

Kellywiththelegs · 24/06/2025 12:35

It happens to the best of us, just a few off the top of my head, Madonna, Beyoncé, Chris Martin all on stage and they fell in full view of the world! At least your fall won’t be a meme anytime soon! Hope that helps a bit!

ShodAndShadySenators · 24/06/2025 12:37

Are you absolutely certain you didn't faint but just lost your footing? If you did pass out that's a more serious scenario than tripping over your feet/the kerb/something. Fainting when unwell is my go-to (instead of vom) but I'm always aware that I'm about to faint (loud hissing sound in ears and swimmy, light headed sensation) or I just pass out but am aware that I did when I come to (after a couple of seconds, never longer). If you did lose consciousness even for a moment but you don't know if you did, I'd get that checked out while you're getting treatment for your knee.

It's crap when people laugh at someone hurting themselves, but that's a reflection on their lousy character and not you.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/06/2025 12:37

I once went arse over breakfast time (as my DF used to call it) in a very crowded Heathrow cafe with a wet floor, while waiting for Dh to appear at arrivals.

Bad enough, you might think, but during the fall I let out a spectacularly noisy fart, too. 😱
So it could have been worse, OP!

Snorting with laughter 😂😂😂🤣😂🤣😂😂

dontwannadothis · 24/06/2025 12:43

You should probably get checked out- if you did trip but have no memory of it it's possible you've got a concussion, and if you fainted then again you need to be checked out to make sure there's nothing more serious underlying

I once literally dragged a woman out of a hedge backwards. She had fallen in ( I didn’t see that bit) and got entangled. We were both laughing

Wheech · 24/06/2025 12:43

I hope you're not too sore.

These things happen. I slipped on ice last winter and my legs went in opposite directions. I'm not exaggerating when I say I thought I was going to do the splits in my local high street on a Saturday afternoon. Fortunately my coat stopped things from going that far and I went sideways instead. Also fortunately, I'm late 40s and don't give a shit.

TucanPlay · 24/06/2025 12:48

That's a nasty fall, and you would be shook up. Any chance you can have a break from work soon? The migraine and the fact you don't remember falling all suggests you are overdoing it. I bet as someone who works in healthcare this is what you would advise a patient!

FatherFrosty · 24/06/2025 12:48

Oh you poor thing. Flowers

before you write your dress off. Put loads of washing up liquid on it. Light scrub. Leave for an hour or so and then wash with biological powder. Ideally dry in the sunshine to bleach it.

mimiasovitch · 24/06/2025 12:50

A few years ago I fell down the stairs of a bus. I was jammed in the stairwell, people were trying to help and I was soooo mortified. Once dislodged I scurried off the bus in embarrassment, forgetting to thank people in my haste to escape. My poor daughter had been behind me, thinking I’d broken my neck or something. I was just really bruised afterwards, though I did burst into tears once away from people. Falling shouldn’t make us feel so embarrassed, but it really, really does!
