Tips For Visiting Amsterdam

Thinking of a short break there for my 60th. I’m pretty sure you can fly from Newquay, which would be ideal. I want to visit Anne Frank’s house but don’t know much about the other attractions. Also any accommodation recommendations? Perhaps quirky vintage hotels? Not on a massive budget but can splash out a bit for my special year.

There’s Anne Frank house but you need to book well ahead. Also the Van Gogh museum but also needs to be booked well ahead. Just something to factor in if visiting.

A canal boat trip is a must. We spent most of our time walking the central canals, calling in at cafes whenever one took our fancy.

we stayed at Hotel Die Port van Cleve which was central. Rooms were lovely. It’s a short walk from central station and there’s a tram stop right outsidr

Anyone else?

Think you forgot to thank the 2 posters who have already offered advice.

Where?

Anyway, Rijksmuseum.

Presumably using the thanks reaction which was created for that purpose.

@RabbitsRock I agree with booking the Anne Frank house in advance, although when I went there a few years ago they did release about 10% of tickets on the day itself, I think.

I liked the Rijksmuseum and the maritime museum. Make sure you have some free time to just wander round the canals, Amsterdam is beautiful.

Who are you to tell people how to behave????

Check out where the cycle lanes are! (Of course, it's great that so many people use cycles).

I used the thanks reaction - blimey I feel about 5!

Good restaurants need to be booked in advance and you often have to pay a deposit to secure a table.

Do not walk in the cycle lanes!

Trams are a great way to get around and simple to use. Touch in and out with your debit card.

I used to love a walk in the Vondelpark. We had a fun visit to the Heineken factory. And eat lots of pancakes.
