Would you reconsider a trip to India in the current situation?

We are in the middle of planning a trip to India in October this year - everything coming together well. But we are wondering whether we should hold off in view of the current situation in Iran/Israel/US etc.

Trip also includes a couple of domestic flights with Air India (now I know I'm being silly!)

Any thoughts gratefully received!

Thanks - it's good to hear that others would have no concerns.

The Air India flights we are taking are Delhi to Varanasi and then Varanasi to Jaipur, so I think flying is the only sensible way to cover that.

Yep. We are going in November. Nowhere near the middle east. We won't go to the USA until the orange monster is gone.

Have you been before, OP? It'll be very intense if it's a first trip. Really not for the faint hearted (filthy, scammy etc.). Having said that, it was one of the best trips I've had and I would go again in a heartbeat. You just need to keep an open mind and be prepared to rough it and you will have the most wonderful experiences and see gorgeous sights. And yes I would go in the "current situation"

I absolutely love your user name and re US trips, is too! We were meant to be in Vegas right now but we have gone to Aus instead.

That's what I'm understanding @marfil from those I've spoken to who have already been there. After years of not wanting to travel to India, DH has changed his mind, so we have to go and see and absorb some of the country and it's culture. Out of my comfort zone, but that will do me good!

Hi.
im Indian born and bred and now visit yearly. If I may give you some non flight advice - please do not venture out to do what you consider normal uk stuff like going running alone/wearing clothes you’d consider just fine for summer in the uk/venture off by yourself in the night.

please remember you cannot necessarily trust (male) policemen or those in positions of authority to not commit a sexual offence.

Just speaking as someone who was born and raised as a little girl, then young woman on the streets of India.

Ofherwise enjoy my homeland :)

also don’t consume ice as you dont know what water was used to freeze into ice. Stick to mineral water from bottles.

Although we did change a couple of domestic flights from Air India to Indigo purely because of my unreasonable irrationality...

That’s not irrational! I’m a fairly frequent visitor to India and have been for the best part of 30 years, and I won’t fly Air India! Indeed, I have a few Indian friends, mainly doctors, and they won’t fly with them either. Indigo are, IME, good. A far more pleasant experience than flying low cost in Europe

Yes, I would. I used to live in India and realistically, they are not close culturally or geographically really to Iran or Israel. We were there in the days of terrorist threats, during the Mumbai terror attacks (lived just outside Mumbai and were regularly in all the places attacked). I would certainly feel safer there than in the US.

As for in country travel, Air India is a bit shite and I would only fly them if I absolutely had to. There will be other options on most routes. Or I’d consider taking the train depending on the route you need to travel.

I’m just glad my daughter flew back 2 weeks ago on Qatar airlines and is not flying today. Two weeks ago I would have never predicted there would be a problem involving Qatar. We are living in uncertain times. It depends how comfortable you are with risk I guess.
