“Remarkable paper pro”? Or cheaper alternative?

I’ve just come across one of these, client in work was using one.

Does anybody know much about them?

Is it like an iPad, but you can write on it as opposed to typing?

I take a lot of notes in work each day. I always do it on paper, I’m not a fan of using my laptop. But I then do quite often lose my notebooks / bits of paper.

So I thought this would be great…but having had a quick look online, they are expensive, £400+

Anybody know of a cheaper alternative that might suit?

I have a boox (which wasn't much cheaper, although they do have a range). It functions as a tablet to a degree so I can use word / Google docs/ check my emails etc. Can also import pdf templates and then write on those, I have a very good diary one I use that's all hyperlinked so I can jump about in it to different days or months.

Thanks.

I really wouldn’t be needing anything hi tech. Just someting to write notes on and be able to categorise and store them neatly.

But I’ve had a quick google and apparently it’s something to do with the pen technology, which is owned by one company and they therefore set the price, as nobody else can use the tech.

it sounds very handy, but don’t think I could justify the cost.

I'd love one of these. Feels like writing on paper and can back it up on your pc instead of the multitude of note books. I write stuff down to install it into my head properly. Access to work recommended one as a workplace adjustment, but it got declined for security/unsupported software reasons. Pffffft.

They do look great, don’t they?

For some reason I was completely unaware of them until today.

Maybe I’ll get one if they ever come down in price…

I have a Remarkable2 it's invaluable as a replacement for paper notebooks and I love the sync to my phone/computer. If your handwriting is neater than mine it will also convert to text or you can add their keyboard. It does have 3 colours for highlighters which show on the computer but not the actual remarkable. If you want lots of colour you need the Paper Pro which is slightly larger & heavier than mine. If you're happy with an excellent digital notebook look at the 2. One of my friends got theirs from Vinted in perfect condition but at a good price.

Well, you can do just that on the Boox, I just like the extra functionality as I use it mostly as a diary as well as a notebook.

Remarkable/ Boox / Kindle Scribe / Supernote are probably the main contenders in this area. They all use similar tech for "paper feel". You could get a refurbished scribe for about half the price of a Remarkable but I'm not sure if they use the same import / export as a standard kindle which (used to at least) can be a bit faffy.

Thank you, I will look them up.

I have a kindle and like it, so will check out kindle scribe

I really want one of these but, as you say, they are pricey. In my case I wouldn't be allowed to take notes on it for work as we aren't allowed to store any work-related files on personal devices. So that would limit its usefulness and make it harder to justify the cost.

InfoSecInTheCity · 23/06/2025 16:35

I have one, I barely use it. Yes it does feel like writing on paper but I just don’t love it, I prefer my iPad with a paper feel screen protector on and using an Apple Pencil. The iPad has all the other functionality like web browsing and calculator which I often need when writing notes, I can still do handwriting conversion to typed text.

I looked into it but I think you need a subscription for it to sync properly. Which works out v expensive in the long term. My iPad does the same job but better.

I didn’t even think of that.

my work will be the same. No devices.

it would mainly just be for my scribbles and calculations. It would be so useful to be able to look back and see how I calculated something.

But it would be a hassle to have to switch to paper or laptop if I was writing anything relating to clients.
